Lead Engineer - Fleet Reliability & Operations

Job Description Summary

Under the responsibility of the Fleet Reliability & Operation (FRO) engineer manager, the Hub Lead Engineer is the Hub team's first contact for all kinds of technical questions, technical issues and technical documentation production. Critical issues/topics and overload will be escalated to the FRO team or to the experts while the Hub engineer remains the owner and main Hub contact. The ultimate goal is to provide better service to Hydro Customers to ensure their satisfaction while also ensuring GE's growth in this specific market.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

GE Renewable Energy Hydro engineering teams work on Hydro Turbine and Generator projects from the design phase through installation & commissioning. Fleet Reliability & Operation engineers work mainly on site support, commissioning support, service jobs and warranty issues while design teams are delivering drawings and procedures. The main rational for this division of work and main goal of the teams is to have a reactive engineering team available to support unplanned and FastTrack activities.

The position is home-based, travelling 30% of the time within the USA to assist site activities, meeting with customers and training/meeting at Brossard office (Canada).

Fleet (Engineering support of site activities):
  • Conduct site visits to assess the existing turbine and/or generator condition, supervise signature tests on the unit before disassembly at site.
  • Daily phone call with site team to answer questions and for problem anticipation.
  • Provide additional work recommendation upon dismantling and inspection of existing components
  • Site record sheet review and approval.
  • Non-conformity and general issue resolution.
  • Conduct site visits during the critical phases of the project.
  • Support commissioning and test phase.
  • Follow up of the performance testing of the prototype turbine on site.

  • Issue resolution during warranty period
  • Technical customer support and issue resolution when the warranty is over.
  • Provide Feedback of experience to the design team.
  • Condition assessment (site inspection and major maintenance works recommendations to the customer)
  • Cavitation inspection

  • Main site contact for operation and maintenance contracts.

  • Design and related documentation preparation on small service projects.

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in hydro business.

  • Willingness and ability to travel in North America and around the world.
  • Ability to work remotely in a team and to communicate effectively.
  • Must be willing to comply with pre-employment screening, including but not limited, reference verification and background check;
  • Must have unrestricted US work authorization.

Desired Characteristics:
  • Creativity, reactivity, sense of urgency, a good mix of common sense and science, priority management, proactivity, autonomy, good communication skills, are the main characteristics require for this position.
  • Knowledge on Hydro Turbine and Generator design and erecting methods.
  • Knowledge of calculation methods related to the strength of materials, finite element simulation, metallurgy and welding processes are added values for the job
  • Being passionate about solving issues.
