We are seeking resumes for a Manager - Engineering & Technical (1 opening) in our Wallula, WA facility.

Description of role:

Responsible for leadership of process engineers, capital project team, process control team, product quality team to ensure continuous improvement of the mill. High-level position within the mill with a lot of influence across all departments to increase operational efficiencies, improve cost position, leverage Best Practices, and improve reliability. The Manager - Engineering and Technical reports to the Mill Manager, and is the primary driver of improvement efforts at the mill. This is a primary Lead Team position, and as such, the Manager - Engineering and Technical will be a key part of the mill's future success.

Principle Accountabilities:

Ensure the mill quality is continuously at the highest level.Respond with appropriate action when it is not, and communicate changes required to improve and control quality.

Develop processes and methodologies to achieve and track year over year cost improvement in raw materials, fixed costs, and productivity.

Develop process engineering and process control groups to provide a continuous stream of new technical and operational leaders for PCA.

Ensure the mill has the right level of automation, and that the automation processes work reliably and all the time to achieve low variability in our operating processes.

Develop relationships with PCA Corporate Technology and be a primary point of contact to coordinate Corporate activities within the mill.Provide feedback, and develop action items lists for improvement opportunities needing Corporate Technology assistance.

Keep up with all improvement efforts at the mill, document action items, assign leaders, serve as facilitator and leader of all improvement discussion and action plans.

Correspond with and work with Corporate Product Quality teams and box plants to understand and benchmark the mill's quality performance and make recommendations with regard to product specifications.

Provide oversight leadership and scope review for Capital Project and Engineering execution.

Provide engineering and technical assistance for troubleshooting and solving chronic issues across the mill.

Develop benchmarking metrics of mill processes compared to world-class performance and strive to achieve those levels at this mill.

Provide leadership coverage for shutdowns, weekend duty assignments, and other activities.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering required.

10 - 15 years industry experience in operations, technical, and/or quality assurance roles in the pulp and paper industry and five plus years of supervisory/management experience.

Must be able to travel as necessary and authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications:

WinGems knowledge.

Detailed knowledge of the processes of linerboard manufacturing.

Knowledge of continuous digesters and the liquor cycle.

The successful candidate must possess the following Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Computer and software knowledge:

Strong computer skills required including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.

Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

A very high level of process knowledge of operations and technology in the pulp and paper industry.

Demonstrated strong focus on safety and customer service.

Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Total Quality processes.

Leadership Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated leadership ability in mill wide process/technical support group, emphasizing a team concept.

Ability to motivate and work well with people at all levels of the organization.

Perform consistently & effectively under pressure.

Must deal effectively in conflict resolution.

Previous work experience as a member of a team and a strong understanding of the importance of open communication and information sharing between team members.

Strong communication skills (writing, speaking, interpersonal).

Understanding of business and financial principles.

Ability to recognize performance deficiencies and implement or recommend methods of improvement.

Demonstrated track record of performance in the areas of cost reduction, operational efficiency improvements, and manufacturing excellence.
