Job Summary

This opportunity is open to current PSEG employees only.

This is a first level supervisory position in the Substation Maintenance Department of Projects and Construction’s Inside Plant Construction and Maintenance Department. The reporting location will be either Gloucester Switching Station or Trenton Switching Station located in Southern Division.

The successful candidate will supervise assigned personnel in the construction, maintenance and operation of associated Transmission and Distribution mechanical equipment in Switching Stations and Substations. Assign and direct work to accomplish the desired results of the Maintenance organization through the use of PSEG values and tools, sound management practices and skills and a total commitment to teamwork in a safe, efficient, and expeditious manner. Oversee the activities of Maintenance Department associates, including contractors in order to ensure safe and efficient construction, maintenance and operation of mechanical equipment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide development and training to Substation Maintenance personnel in work practices and use of tools and equipment
  • Promote safety principles and procedures
  • Coach, counsel and recognize associates, as required, and facilitate first step grievance meetings in accordance with Positive Discipline
  • Conduct fact-finding meetings, as required
  • Conduct performance appraisal reviews with bargaining unit associates
  • Assist in the identification and recognition of unusual, unsafe or inappropriate work conditions and take necessary corrective action
  • Interface with Division Operations to ensure top quartile system reliability
  • Maintain effective working relationships across departments to achieve Safe and Reliable operation of the Electric Grid
  • Accept overtime, call out and on-call assignments and provide support of work activities and response to emergencies during and outside of normal working hours, including emergency response and restoration for major system and weather events within and outside of the division, including acceptance of Mutual Aid obligations
  • Safety sensitive position / D.O.T. testing required


Job Specific Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum three years’ experience in the construction and maintenance of mechanical / electrical equipment in Switching Stations and Substations or other similar type facilities, e.g., generating station, industrial plant, building facilities
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, wiring, and 1-line diagrams
  • Working knowledge of Company / Union Agreement
  • As the job requires driving to Company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving history
  • Must obtain an acceptable score on the First Line Supervisor's Test (FLST) unless presently directly and supervising (i.e. responsible for performance review) operating department / represented associates for a minimum of 12 continuous months. For those who have previously taken and received an acceptable score on the FLST, but who are not presently and directly supervising represented associates, test results will be valid for a maximum period of two years from the date the test was taken. Acceptable test results exceeding the two-year period (for those applicants not presently and directly supervising represented associates) cannot be used in bidding on or applying for a first line supervisory position for which the test was validated.


DESIRED:
  • BS Degree in Engineering
  • Mechanically inclined aptitude
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships and interface with other groups in the Division as well as Asset Management and other P&C associates
  • Ability to assist with troubleshooting, identifying and analyzing abnormal equipment operations
  • Maintain or obtain a CDL license
  • Knowledge of computer applications
