As our Research Technician, you will be responsible for supporting the organization's Technology Innovation/NPD Projects and Product Compliance & Sustainability programs.

You will be responsible for performing a wide variety of non-routine, technical tasks. Duties will include the preparation and testing of new materials, coatings, and product structures, establishing pilot plant operating conditions, evaluating new/improved manufacturing processes, setting up and running factory tests, and creating prototypes in support of our New Product Development (NPD) and other Innovation efforts.

What you'll be doing:
  • Provide support to R&D teams for both sourced and internal new product development projects.
  • Create samples, coatings,run tests (bench, pilot, or plant) and collect data in a safe and accurate manner using sound technical and data analysis principles.
  • Conduct and/or supports manufacturing process qualification trials at vendor locations.
  • Recommend process changes necessary to optimize product results (cost, performance, or manufacturing effectiveness).
  • Actively work with team members to determine approaches to problems, new business requirements and application of new concepts and technology.
  • Evaluate existing and new technologies as assigned, identifying technical factors that impact product/system performance
  • Proactively transfer technical knowledge to other key stakeholders as required by business need.
  • Provide training to other technicians and associates on project learnings.
  • Network with other technicians to ensure best practice is shared.
  • Participate in LEAN events to improve the overall effectiveness of assigned activities.
  • Work with corporate EHS to ensure compliance with Technology SDS requirements.
  • Conductannual audits for SUSTAIN and GREEN GENIE certifications, compiling quarterly Sustainability reporting, populating/updating chemical databases


What will make you successful:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years relevant work experience
  • Familiarity with raw material used in pulp, paper, building products manufacturing
  • Ability to work in a cross functional environment including manufacturing & compliance to gather & help analyze data for Sustainability & Circularity


Preferred qualifications:
  • Associates degree in chemistry, mechanics, engineering, or another related technical field
  • 2+ years working in a laboratory conducting experiments and collecting data and/or a manufacturing environment. Preferably paper making, coatings technology, wood working or architectural structures
  • Familiarity with chemical inventory management databases such as ToxNot and formulation management like GSM
  • Strong knowledge of safety processes
