Senior Specialist, Engineering - Technical Operations

At Our Company's campus in Elkton, Virginia, we are seeking candidates for a Senior Specialist, Engineering position in our Technical Operations Team to support Utilities operations. The manufacturing facility is located in the Shenandoah Valley along the Shenandoah River and the Blue Ridge Mountains a short distance from the University of Virginia and James Madison University.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply their enthusiasm and technical skills as a member of a multidisciplinary team supporting the operation of pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, vaccine product manufacturing facilities.

Responsibilities may include :
  • Supports operations in maintaining and optimizing system operational reliability, safety and environmental compliance, and energy usage.
  • Coach, teach, and develop the skills of the Technical Operations engineering team as well as the Facilities Operations team.
  • Troubleshooting utility systems, including boilers, clean steam generation, turbines, compressed air, chillers, air handler units (AHUs), refrigeration systems, and conditioned water systems to ensure compliant, reliable and cost-efficient operation.
  • Appliestechnical skills and ingenuity to correct equipment and system problems that result in downtime or consume excessive maintenance resources or energy.
  • Provides capital project execution/support in project design reviews, turnover acceptance and training of operations personnel for utilities project.
  • Management of well water systems, groundwater pumping plan, stormwater monitoring and control.
  • Implement alarm rationalization work process to eliminate nuisance alarms and improve productivity and support safe and compliant operation.
  • Oversee and implement change control management for utility systems
  • Leading and conducting technical investigations of deviations, identifying root cause, conducting investigational test protocols, implementing corrective actions, and developing investigation report
  • Participates in audits and safety reviews.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • B.S. or M.S. degree in mechanical, civil, chemical engineering, or related disciplines and minimum six years of relevant utilities experience.

The successful candidate must have:
  • Minimum six years of experience with utilities equipment (HVAC, clean steam generators, boilers, WFI, potable water, air compressors, chillers) and knowledge of utilities processes and systems.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers, distributed control systems, or building automation systems
  • Highly developed communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to handle and prioritize many simultaneous assignments and quickly adapt to changes in business priorities.
  • Ability to quickly address issues and develop solutions to minimize compliance risk and improve utility reliability.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills and a hands-on approach to problem solving, with a bias towards going to see problems for oneself in the field.

  • Ability to examine an issue from diverse perspectives (safety, compliance, maintenance, automation, equipment, process, and people) in order to best understand and resolve.
  • Strong desire to succeed and to help others to do the same.

Preferred Experiences:
  • 10+ years of utilities experience
  • Groundwater and stormwater management experience
  • Project management experience
  • Experience working in a pharmaceutical or manufacturing environment
