Financial Analyst II

Position Specific Description

NextEra Energy is seeking a Tax Analyst to join the Tax Forecasting team located in Juno Beach, Florida. NextEra Energy Resources is the world's largest producer of energy from renewable wind and solar resources while Florida Power and Light is a regulated utility that serves approximately 5 million customers in Florida. This position will help ensure that NextEra Energy, Inc. remains "Best in Class" with regard to the quality and efficiency of our indirect tax compliance process.

In this role you will prepare monthly forecasts and perform variance analysis of actual results compared to forecast and effectively communicate the key drivers of variances to management. The individual should be highly motivated, have a strong aptitude for utilizing new technology tools and have a continuous improvement mindset.

Tax Accounting
  • Prepare tax accounting entries for month end close in accordance with ACS740
  • Prepare deferred tax asset and liability reconciliation reports
  • Prepare tax analysis for standalone audits
  • Prepare quarterly Blackline account reconciliations for tax accounts
  • Lead tax automation projects with department wide exposure
  • Learn Alteryx and develop workflows to reduce process cycle time

Tax Forecasting
  • Assist with preparing the monthly tax forecasts for NextEra Energy and subsidiaries
  • Identify process improvement through the use of technology and innovation to improve the forecasting process
  • Analyze and quantify the primary drivers of the company's effective tax rate
  • Prepare the Tax Monthly Operating and Performance Review "MOPR" for Corporate Entities
  • Analyze forecast variances and summarize key drivers
  • Analyze cash tax payments and utilization of credits
  • Partner with compliance team to minimize return to provision adjustments and with tax accounting team to align forecast with time and amount of actual transactions
  • Effective communication with forecasting and compliance teams to ensure efficient process from forecasting to return filing
  • Ability to quickly establish priorities and meet all assigned deadlines related to the forecasting processes
  • Assist with preparation of the long-term forecast
  • Strong experience with technology and automation


Job Overview

Employees in this role supports Senior Management decision making via financial modeling, including butnot limited to, revenue requirement and customer bill impacts, discounted cash flow analysis and financial statement modeling. This position identifies and conducts moderately complex analyses of financial impacts of issues and/or decisions facing the company and proposes strategies to maximize financial performance of company.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Identifies, analyzes, and communicates to management the impact on the Company's financial structure, profitability, financial integrity, and competitive position utilizing relevant analytical methods and/or department's forecasting models
• Provides financial analysis support for various projects, calculating revenue requirements, net present value, customer bill impact, etc.
• Provides expertise, support, and financial training for the company departments requiring these services
• Performs financial analyses as required by management or regulatory bodies
• Prepares PowerPoint presentations to be provided to Senior and Executive Management
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

•Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience
•Experience: 2+ years
