Summary

The Executive Director, Workforce Health & Wellness, is part of the Division of Human Resources and will lead MD Anderson's workforce health and wellness programs, which includes Occupational Health, Employee Assistance and Wellness programs that includes on campus fitness facilities.

The Executive Director will:
  • Create and maintain a system-wide culture of wellness by promoting, supporting and advocating for staff well-being.
  • Serve as a collaborator, strategist, operator and policymaker whose role includes clinical, financial and business operational oversight.
  • Serve as a change agent and thought leader who models innovation to create a culture of multi-dimensional wellbeing.
  • Partner with institutional stakeholders to implement innovative health and wellness solutions across the spectrum of Workforce Health & Wellness.

Essential Functions

The position will champion workforce wellness aligned with evidence based preventive clinical practice and foster a culture of service excellence. Works in partnership with leaders across the institution who are ambassadors of wellness.

Occupational Health Medical Services: Provides a comprehensive set of occupational health services to the workforce, including physical examinations, evaluation and treatment of work-related injuries, provision of surveillance programs, and evaluation of workplace hazards to health which includes workforce vaccination campaigns.

Clinical Oversight of the Employee Assistance Program: Provides physician oversight, including consultation on complex cases, evaluation of fitness for duty concerns, and evaluation of EAP programs.

Institutional Committee Service: Provides occupational health representation on institutional committees, both standing and ad hoc. Oversees policies and guidelines that are connected to committee service. Represents MD Anderson at local, regional and national conferences.

Oversight of occupational health of faculty: Identifies faculty in distress, assists the EAP with case management of faculty impairment, represents Employee Health on faculty health committees.
  • Provide individual consultation to department heads and executives about matters that involve faculty performance. Direct medical and psychiatric evaluations, if indicated.
  • Serve as a content expert for management of performance issues that have a cognitive or mental health component.

Partners with the Physician Health Advisor to evaluate and determine course of action for clinical faculty practice actions related to health conditions.

Organization and management of Expert Panel reviews for health care workers who have blood borne viral diseases and will be performing invasive procedures.

Financial

Leads the preparation and management of the annual budget of the department.

Qualifications

Required:
  • MD/DO with applicable board certification in either occupational, preventive medicine or a primary care specialty,
  • Eligibility for licensure in the state of Texas
  • Five years' experience in a leadership role within a complex academic healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated experience as a highly effective leader with strong EQ, drive, commitment to personal leadership development and high standards of professionalism.

Preferred:
  • Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration or Business Administration.
