The position: Although this role is predominantly regional in scope, significant cultural diversity is required to engage with and operate more widely or lead globally on a topic as and if required, and to deliver across business lines through the coordination of technical teams to ensure the overall running of the site is fit for purpose and maintained in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations to reduce EHS risks, improve safety compliance and performance at site level, and support GSK in living its values. A key aspect of this position is the selection and appointment of EHS Duty Holders, as well as the interaction with R&D senior leaders, EHS and Facility Management peers, practitioners and customers. Key Responsibilities: Reporting into the UK Principal Duty holder (PDH) who in turn reports to (RDMT) The US PDH is accountable for ensuring we meet our legal and GSK requirements for oversight of the EHS&S Principal risk at the R&D hubs/regional hub on behalf of the R&D business The US PDH will deliver fit for purpose Duty Holder Operations at a R&D hubs/regional hub level, demonstrating strong leadership, re-direct resources as and when needed. This will be achieved by building strong collaborative relationships with R&D Business Leads, WREF and EHSS professionals and relevant Duty Holders to understand and manage R&D hubs/regional hub needs and risks. The principle of proportionality will be applied to manage the high severity and site wide risks to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) level, consistent with GSK and legal requirements. At the R&D hubs/regional hub level, the PDH is accountable for Ensuring the high severity and site wide EHS&S risks are identified, documented in site risk register and mitigated appropriately; these will include but are not limited to the safety of people, impact on the immediate environment and the local community. Ensuring the processes, systems, resources and capabilities are in place to manage the high severity/duty holder risks Ensuring all high hazards are identified and specific topic duty holders appointed and working effectively Ensuring the appropriate controls are in place and are being monitored Ensuring learnings from failures are made and shared within and across regions Escalate major or critical issue or longstanding unresolved EHSS issues to R&D EHS Council and to the relevant senior individuals in the affected business lines in R&D and central support functions Ensuring compliance with legal requirements and GSK EHS standards as they apply to the site, ensuring through the Site EHS lead that required breaches are reported to the relevant bodies in the relevant time period. Why You? Basic Qualifications: Degree or equivalent in scientific and /or engineering related discipline. Operational experience at complex R&D sites. Experience of delivering services with and through a team of professionals. Leadership, management, and interpersonal skills. Compliance focus and delivery track record. Planning and deployment skills. Flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving skills. Ability to effectively project manage and provide governance over a range of subject areas. Communication, negotiation, and influencing skills. Preferred Qualifications: Post graduate qualification In Compliance, risk management. Experience in resolving complex safety challenges and providing oversight of a range of technical services. Ability to apply a wide breadth and depth of knowledge at numerous levels in the organization. Ability to learn quickly and grasp new concepts. Experience of site wide operations and the importance of EHS and engineering control. Sound judgement, risk management and pragmatism to ensure sites are run in a compliant, workable, and sustainable way supporting business needs and meeting safety requirements.
