Stationary Engineer

Overview

  • Must be able to troubleshoot, maintain, align and repair pumps, pump seals, drive couplings, high voltage systems, VAV's, FCU's, AHU's, cooling towers, gear boxes, belts, sheaves and general plumbing. Operates and maintains equipment such as chillers, boilers, air compressors, and other refrigeration equipment in the central plants. Responsible for analyzing commercial and industrial HVAC system operations, designs and failures with a minimum of supervision. Understands chemical treatment process used in both chillers and boilers.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain day-to-day operations and maintenance of high pressure boilers, chillers and all mechanical equipment relevant to heating, cooling and building automation systems.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair of centrifugal type chillers including partial tear down of condenser and evaporator shells.
  • Trouble shooting of chiller controls, refrigerant circuit and lubrication systems.
  • Cleans chiller tubes and cooling towers on an Annual basis or as required.
  • Provides proper documentation of HVAC system operations and trends.
  • Service, troubleshoot, repair and monitor both direct expansion and chilled water HVAC systems (Chillers, Boilers, Cooling Towers, Split Systems etc.)
  • Interfaces with outside support contractors and vendors in updating mechanical equipment and control systems.
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications

  • WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
  • • Works in an interior and outdoor environment.
  • • Dirt, dust, grease and oils are always present.
  • • Must comply with OSHA, EPA, US Air force regulations and company work rules.
  • PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
  • • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • • Work requires prolonged standing, climbing, bending and occasionally working in cramped positons.
  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certifications: One year related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
  • • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • • Universal EPA 608 certification.
  • • Ability to pass an extensive background check
  • • Current driver's license
  • Experience:
  • • Minimum four years of documented experience in operating and maintaining large (>1000 ton) centrifugal chillers.
  • Skills:
  • • Extensive knowledge of all types of HVAC equipment and systems.
  • • Keen attention to detail
  • • Superb troubleshooting skills
