HJF is seeking a part time Research Assistant II to support the Department of Medical and Clinical Psychology (MPS) within the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences located in Rockville, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to MPS. This is a remote, temporary project based position expected to last approximately 3 months at 20 hours a week, with possibility of extension if warranted by project goals.

The Suicide Care, Prevention, and Research Initiative (Suicide CPR Initiative) at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland is accepting applications for a part-time Research Assistant telework position. The Research Assistant will primarily review and code records belonging to military suicide decedents. The Research Assistant will serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team; examine topics pertaining to military mental health and suicide prevention; and solve problems of standard complexity in carrying out research projects.

Responsibilities:
  1. Maintains compliance with established standard operating procedures as a coder for military suicide death reviews, and contributes to the preparation of executive summaries, presentation slides, and timelines. (50%)
  2. Applies quality control measures as outlined/required by the protocol. Provides basic data analysis and coding. (10%)
  3. Performs research projects, including collection and organization of data, and maintaining databases. Makes detailed observations regarding military suicide decedent records. (10%)
  4. Assists in the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations. (10%)
  5. Supports the planning and implementation of multiple suicide prevention research studies while maintaining compliance with established standard operating procedures under supervision; participates in regular meetings with other lab staff, graduate students, and collaborators. (10%)
  6. Conducts literature reviews and assists with the preparation and formatting of scientific writing for submission to scientific journals, professional conferences, and funding agencies; assists with grant proposal and Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocol preparation. (10%)
  7. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Prior military service and/or experience working within military settings highly preferred. Master's degree is preferred, but highly qualified bachelor's-level candidates will be considered. Additional desired qualifications include attention to detail, strong organizational and multitasking skills, ability to work independently as well as part of a team, critical thinking skills, prior experience in a research environment, superb writing and editing skills, and interest as well as experience in suicide prevention research.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree is required.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: Minimum 3-5 years of work experience is required.

Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).

Work Environment: This position is currently remote.
