IT Support Specialist -IT Operations

The primary purpose of the IT Support Specialist, IT Operations, position is to provide support to MD Anderson users developing customized client/server solutions that provide increased operational efficiencies via semi-automated/automated processes. These solutions may involve, but limited to, skills and experience associated with application development, customized script, programming, data warehousing and database administration.

The incumbent is responsible for organizing and performing work within established schedules and standards using independent judgment and solving overall system problems.
The IT Support Specialist correctly diagnoses and effectively handles new or unusual situations as they arise. The person in this position also provides support to others on the team when additional training, technical knowledge, or support is needed. The Specialist is expected to conduct small, formal training sessions with team members to expand knowledge and be a part of the leadership team to develop the direction and contribute to the continual service improvement efforts. The IT Support Specialist focuses on the troubleshooting and resolution of complex challenges, and large tasks within projects. The Specialist acts as the liaison to the engineering, compliance, information security and project groups to help transition new solutions from design to operations.

Support MDA IT Operations IS Systems and Processes:
• The predominant and essential function of the job is to serve as an expert in technology driven solutions that are organization-wide, division-wide, department-wide or the equivalent in scope.
• Responsible for highly complex assignments that have considerable impact and generally are one-of-a-kind within the organization.
• Develops alternative strategies for programs based on analysis and research in an assigned specialty area. Serves as a technical advisor and liaison with engineering, compliance, information security and other project groups.
• Oversees projects of significance to the department's operations, and prepares special studies and reports.
• Improves existing programs by reviewing objectives and specifications; evaluating proposed changes; recommending changes; making modifications.
• Design systems/solutions and assess the effectiveness of technology resources already in use or new systems that are being implemented, as well as, determine the practicality of changes and modification of systems.
• May be called upon to work with external partners, including consultants, agencies and vendors, to arrive at the most appropriate system or integration of multiple systems.

Manage Self Professional Development:
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
• Maintains skills as technology and implementations evolve. With information technology constantly changing, incumbents in this position will stay up-to-date on emerging technologies and the potential effectiveness of these advancements and their possible application in their current environment(s).

IT Operations Service Delivery Infrastructure Administration:
• Incumbents in this position will be familiar with a broad range of technologies employed by the IS Division and the IT Operations department to manage and deliver our portfolio of services to our users.
• Some of these technologies include, but are not limited to, VMware Horizon View; Dell Wyse thin clients, including Wyse Device Manager, VMware vSphere, VMware Airwatch, Citrix XenApp, XenDesktop, ivanti Appsense, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager, CEMS, and Absolute for Apple products.
• The incumbent will create, maintain and enhance customized middleware to provide improved reporting capabilities and end to end device data integration relative to information associated with the 40,000+ desktop and mobile device support serviced by the IT Operations department.

Education Required:
Bachelor's degree.

Certification Required:
None

Certification Preferred:
VMware Certified Associate (VCA), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Dell Wyse Device Manager, Citrix Certified Associate - Virtualization (CCA - V), Citrix Certified Professional - Virtualization (CCP - V), EPIC EHR Certification.

Experience Required:
Required: Six years of related work experience in personal computer operating system and business application software systems, to include five years in systems related to those in use by the institution. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred Experience:
One or more of the following: SQL, Oracle, Tableau, MS Power BI, Powershell, C##, or data visualization
One or more of the following : Citrix XenApp, Citrix XenDesktop , VMware Desktop and Application Virtualization, ivante Appsense , Dell Wyse Device Manager, One or more EPIC EHR products
