Director, Cloud Engineering Tech Lead

Prudential’s CTO organization is seeking a senior level candidate to join the cloud engineering team. This exciting position will offer a qualified individual the opportunity to lead a team of engineers who are intrigued by how things work and are constantly looking to make things better. We are looking for someone who is self-motivated, has passion for technology, and a desire to provide outstanding customer service.

As a Technical Lead, you will be responsible for the effective engineering and ongoing management of cloud services and the related infrastructure technologies. You will lead a team of people responsible for the cloud product offering, consisting of cloud services, automation, guardrails, controls, and monitoring. Candidates must have a strong background in cloud technologies, global enterprise operations, application operations, tool development, and systems automation.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of cloud engineers in the day-to-day site reliability engineering of AWS, Azure and GCP
  • Lead the enablement of self-service operations product offerings to provide transparency and reduce time to value for Prudential development teams.
  • Engineer consistent, scalable, secure, and flexible use of cloud provider services complete with ubiquitous logging, high availability, and strong governance.
  • Incorporate open telemetry and open metrics frameworks and strengthen the integration of cloud application performance management with devops delivery pipelines.
  • Work to reduce Mean Time to Restore (MTTR) by ensuring all new deployments meet established testing guidelines with clear operations runbooks.
  • Actively participate in Agile backlog management, story prioritization, acceptance criteria definition and release planning
  • Works with the Scrum Master, Solution Engineers and Test Engineers to execute sprints
  • Works with Solution Architect and Technical Architect to understand and prioritize enabler work
  • Ensure customer-driven design considering user pain points and usability test results, using market and industry knowledge as well as continual research, to deliver a well-positioned product
  • Effectively use metrics and reporting to support data-driven decision-making


Qualifications:
  • Strong technical experience building and running cloud applications, including microservices patterns, security integration, and cloud native development support.
  • Hands-on knowledge and/or certification with Amazon Web Services.
  • Working level knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform
  • Proven track record building and operating large-scale enterprise cloud environments.
  • Deep technical knowledge of cloud native patterns and 12-factor application design
  • Technical expertise to be able to engage in discussion with tech team and to understand business outcomes and technical risks
  • Experience in Agile Development, with Product Owner (or similar) experience preferred
  • Consultative skillset with the ability to conduct continuous exploration of customer needs
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills, with ability to communicate complex messages and trade-offs to tell a compelling story
  • Strong problem solver with ability to lead the team to push the solution and progress
  • Ability to translate business need into technical terms
  • Challenger mindset and passion to challenge status quo to find new solutions and drive out of the box ideas – loves and embraces change
  • Believes in a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency, and trust across the team
  • Not afraid to ‘roll up the sleeves’ and seeks to go outside comfort zone to learn – pushes the team to do the same
  • Demonstrated global delivery responsibility and global mindset

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science/Information Systems or related technical field.
