Director, Planning & Analysis

The Asset Liability Management (ALM) Finance team is seeking a results oriented, adaptable and dependable candidate with strong investment accounting knowledge and proven leadership abilities for a Director (8P) role.

ALM Finance is part of the Corporate Controllers organization and has responsibility for financial reporting and analysis of the General Account’s invested assets. This role is within ALM Finance’s Planning and Analysis team which is primarily responsible for the internal management reporting and forecasting of the domestic general account investment results for the base forecast and Deterministic Stress Testing (DST) scenarios. The ALM Finance P&A team leverages the Investment Planning Model ("QRM") to produce the quarterly investment forecast. This director role leads the team which has primary oversight of this model and partners with ALM’s O&S support to execute the model runs along with leading on-going development efforts to enhance the model and drive efficiency in the process.

This role will also support the ALM Finance financial reporting team and oversee certain deliverables (e.g. IAIS and Rating Agency surveys) in peak reporting cycle periods. In both areas, the primary goals include maintaining a strong control environment to ensure timely and accurate reporting of results, while also preparing insightful analysis to convey the notable takeaways to key constituents in a clear and concise manner.

This position leads a staff of two associates and will be responsible for the continued growth and development of the team.

The ideal candidate will have a collaborative mindset, offer new perspectives, seek to make continual improvements in process and analysis, remain flexible when faced with shifting priorities and strive to build a team environment where associate development is a key focus. Candidates should be able to demonstrate working knowledge and accounting treatment of investment securities on a GAAP and Stat basis.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Oversight of the quarterly forecast and annual stress scenario planning model processes, including coordination with ALM’s O&S team, assumption input collection and review with key partners (e.g. PGIM, Investment Risk), along with output review and analysis
  • Primary point of contact for on-going planning model development [Liquidity Stress Testing (LST), derivative projection updates (Hedgesim), and other enhancements (e.g. Deterministic Projection Capabilities - DPC)]
  • Oversight of the review and analysis of C-1 risk projections for the general account portfolio as part of the Risk Based Capital (RBC) framework
  • Planning Model Management functions including Leadership and Steering Committee communications, enhancement prioritization and Model Governance responsibilities
  • Coordination with Treasurers and business partners for investment sections of industry surveys: Rating Agencies (Moody’s, Fitch, AM Best, S&P), IAIS & Fed reporting (Data Collection, Field Test, TIC & FC-2).
  • Other ad-hoc and special projects

  • 10+ years of work experience in financial analysis or reporting with Investments experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or similar. CPA, MBA and CFA a plus
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary with an ability to interact effectively with senior levels of management
  • Ability to collaborate across the Finance teams and foster relationships across multiple business partners including Investment Operations, PGIM (asset managers), CIO, Investment Risk, Corporate Management Reporting (GAAP and Stat P&A), Actuarial, etc.
  • Reliable and accountable, with ability to work under tight time constraints
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills; careful attention to detail
  • Displays leadership skills and talent management awareness
  • Flexibility to work overtime as required during peak reporting periods
