Director, Operational Excellence (OpEx) Capabilities Lead

The Director, Operational Excellence (OpEx) Capabilities Lead is a member of the Global Product Development and Supply (GPS) OpEx leadership team and is responsible for training, people development, change leadership and knowledge management. The role will develop, deploy and manage a holistic people development strategy to enable the organization to meet business objectives and build the foundations to drive continuous, sustainable, flawless execution and performance improvement through deep and broad application of operational excellence methodology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Builds and maintains core OpEx standards including OpEx methodology, training and content associated with the GPS Improvement Engine to help shape our Culture of Excellence
  • Manages deployment of OpEx related Capabilities and IE Academy (GPS OpEx methodology and associated development curriculum)
  • Responsible for technical content management of OpEx training / certification program deployment, coaching and mentoring of institutional training (White Belt, Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Black Belt, Lean Practitioner and Lean Master).
  • Partner with other functional and site based OpEx teams to establish and support best practices
  • Develop organizational strategy to create, embed and mature OpEx Capabilities across all functions of GPS through functional support models, maturity assessments and roadmap creation, talent rotational development programs
  • Assessment GPS OpEx team capabilities and develop gap closure plans and roadmap to ensure right capabilities and maturity levels exist to deliver long term strategic plan
  • Apply change management methods to ensure effective execution of OpEx and to promote a culture and mindset of operational excellence and continuous improvement
  • Build, maintain and leverage relationships across the matrix to identify opportunities for process improvement and facilitate the implementation and continuous monitoring of processes and staying up to date on developments in process improvement methodologies and best practices
  • Lead Stakeholder engagement and coordination of best practices


Professional experience and qualifications:
  • 10+ years experience in Operational Excellence
  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific related discipline required. MBA or advanced scientific degree preferred
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification with deep knowledge of all the lean methods and Toyota Production System (TPS)
  • Working knowledge of Shingo methodologies
  • Direct experience leading and supporting operational excellence transformations in a pharmaceutical or a related regulated industry, is required. Divisional and Site based OpEx experience a plus.
  • Up to ~30% travel (domestic and International)

  • Ability to work in a Global Environment with well-rounded experience executing and leading projects on continuous improvement, Lean, Six Sigma, and operational excellence
  • Proven track record of developing talent and effective people management including coaching, motivating and development planning in a multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, strategic capabilities, and ability to work effectively in complex, rapidly changing environments
  • Must be skilled in strategic thinking, managing through systems, innovation management, and negotiation
  • Must possess strong verbal and communication skills, and a well-developed ability to constructively work across functional areas and levels to achieve results
