The Neuroscience TRC is committed to development of transformational therapeutics for patients with neurodegenerative and neuromuscular diseases. We have built a network of external partnerships across multiple treatment modalities (small molecules, biologics and RNA targeting) that leverage our leadership in protein homeostasis and inflammation to attack neurological diseases. Internal research focuses on protein homeostasis by direct and ligand directed degradation, neuroinflammation and remyelination.

Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, the following approaches:

Disease modifying therapies for neurodegenerative, neuro-inflammatory and neuromuscular diseases; CNS targets that modulate protein homeostasis, protein clearance, inflammation and reduce or eliminate toxic protein production; Emerging technologies (RNA, DNA targeting, gene regulation, editing and replacement, vector optimization) that when matched to underlying disease genetics can deliver a precision medicine portfolio with a high probability of success to address unmet medical needs; Targets in orphan/rare neurological and neuromuscular diseases. AI/ML in target identification and neurology drug discovery; Translational tools and technologies such as neuroimaging and fluid biomarkers to track neurodegenerative disease; Novel blood brain-barrier delivery technologies.

POSITION SUMMARY

Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a Senior Director to join the Neuroscience Thematic Research Center team. This scientific leader will have responsibilities across Drug Discovery, Business Development, and scientific leadership of internal and external collaborations.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Identification and development of high quality assets that advance the Neuroscience Thematic Research Center (TRC) portfolio through external and internal partnerships
  • Works closely with TRC head to evolve the Neuroscience TRC strategy into the field of neuroimmunology
  • Responsibility for external neuroimmunology and neuroinflammation research
  • Leads scientific input to external partnerships and internal teams to design, execute and interpret preclinical studies to deliver high quality, well-characterized neuroscience assets for clinical development
  • Drives critical decision making through leadership of research collaboration teams with external partners
  • Serves as neuroinflammation expert within Neuroscience TRC
  • Works closely with project management and early development teams to guide assets to IND and clinical trials
  • Provides an interface to Business Development, Alliance Management, and the Integrative Sciences TRC
  • Builds and manages relationships with leading academic, VC NewCo’s and PhRMA centers of excellence
  • Represents BMS in consortia aimed at advancing therapies for neurologic diseases
  • Collaborate with the Neuroscience leadership team as well as other members on the team


QUALIFICATIONS:
  • PhD or MD/PhD
  • Proven track record of at least 10 years of subject matter relevant pharmaceutical experience with demonstrated accomplishments of delivering assets to the clinic
  • Widely recognized expertise in neuroscience
  • Deep understanding of neuroinflammation/neuroimmunology research
  • Ability to influence without authority in internal and external settings

  • Shepherded at least three early stage programs from bench to successful IND
  • Demonstrated ability to work and innovate in a matrix environment
  • Ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary drug development teams with demonstrated problem-solving skills and flexibility to succeed in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Expert scientific skills to set clear goals and expectations with external and internal partners
  • Adept at establishing and supervising virtual research teams to optimize their performance
  • Experience working with key academic investigators
  • Record of building innovative research portfolios through collaborative scientific leadership
  • Proven leadership and problem solving skills
  • Excellent written and proactive verbal communication skills
