Program Manager, UX / UI Design

The program manager, under the director of Creative Communications, oversees visual design development of digital (desktop and mobile) solutions that maintain MD Anderson's brand and visual identity. The position supports a wide range of organizational projects and constituents, and collaborates closely with colleagues in Strategic Communications, Marketing and Information Services. The program director must possess a strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques as well as best practices for digital (web, mobile) design.

The ideal candidate will show experience with user experience/user interface.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Digital and User Interface Design:
  • Creates innovative and engaging visual design solutions for a wide variety of digital communication platforms, including desktop and mobile websites, intranet sites, email templates, social media posts and presentations.
  • Leads design for new digital experiences as well as improvement of existing experiences.
  • Develops and implements strategies for future iterations.
  • Creates interactive design solutions to address business needs and meet end user needs.
  • Delivers work product that strictly adheres to organizational brand standards and accessibility guidelines, while remaining user friendly and aesthetically engaging.
  • Throughout projects, works alongside Strategic Communications and Marketing colleagues as well as Information Services project managers and developers.
  • Presents design work to customers including senior leaders for review and feedback.
  • Consistently tracks success of work product, projects and initiatives, and identifies opportunities for improvement and/or solves potential problems.


Strategic Counsel:
  • Advises and educates colleagues and customers on usability principles and techniques, best practices for digital (web, mobile) design and web content accessibility guidelines.
  • Contributes to the shared knowledge of the team(s) working on digital communication platforms and initiatives.
  • Serves as a knowledgeable brand steward and ensures all projects reflect the brand look and feel.
  • Provides support and information to internal and external customers related to digital brand inquiries and requests. Routinely attends key customer meetings and is available for consultation, as needed.


People Management:
  • Provides digital design direction to colleagues and collaborators.
  • Directs work of communication designers, external service providers and contracted personnel.


Other duties as assigned:
  • As needs arise, create and design general, non-medical/scientific/technical art, graphics institutional programs and publications.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in Multimedia, Communications, Medical Illustration, Graphic Design, Photography, Video Production or related field.

Experience

Required: Five years of experience in video production, photography, medical illustration or graphic design to include three years of multi-project leadership.

May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred: Five years of graphic design experience with specific focus on digital and user interface design. Proficiency using Mac OSX platform. Professional-level skills in Sketch, Adobe CS, Photoshop, Illustrator, In Design and PowerPoint. Must demonstrate strong communication and analytical skills.
