Ophthalmic Technician I


Provide patient care, technical
support, and administrative duties for an ophthalmology group practice. Obtain medical histories from patients with
standard and rare medical disorders. Patient care duties include recording patient ocular history, obtaining
visual acuity, autorefractometry, lensometry, tonometry, pupillary defect
evaluation, confrontational field testing, OCTs, OCTAs, Visual Fields, administration
of eye drops for pupil dilation with topical anesthesia, and assisting with
minor procedures. Ordering supplies and
medications for clinical use. Assistance
with administrative duties including; clinic preparation, appointment scheduling,
answering phones, faxing of RX refill authorizations.

*This is a six month limited appointment. Limited appointments may convert to career.*

1. Knowledge of various ophthalmic
clinical protocols, medical terminology anatomy, physiology as well as
diseases of the eye and systemic diseases that affect the eye.
2.Skill in acquiring
accurate medical history, measuring and recording visual acuity, and
3. Ability to
learn state of the art diagnostic equipment.
4. Knowledge of ophthalmic medications and the proper
instillation of these into the eye.
5. Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment and
instrument sterilization techniques.
6. Ability to
organize and prioritize duties to maximize efficiency.
7. Ability to work under pressure over a busy
8. Have interpersonal skills to maintain comfortable
and cooperative working relationships with physicians, patients and co-workers.
9. Ability to work as a team member in a busy
10. Ability to use ophthalmic equipment such as
TonoPen, slit lamp, VA monitor, auto-refractor, chair and Applanation
11. Ability to
work with Microsoft Word and Excel software.
12. Must be
able to work with regular, planned hours and days of the week based on the
clinical needs of the service.
