Senior Specialist Quality Assurance

Our location in Columbus, OH, currently has an opportunity for a Senior Specialist Quality Assurance.

This position reports to the Quality Manager, R&D. Ensures that all Abbott Nutrition products manufactured by Process Research Operations meet the highest standards for quality required by regulations.


Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives:

The Sr. Specialist Quality Assurance will develop, facilitate, provide support to, and maintain Process Research Operations quality systems. The Project Leader needs to be team oriented, agile, innovative and able to anticipate and mitigate risks.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Works on problems of complex scope that can have significant business impact
  • Assures food safety through the use of HACCP principles and Microbiological knowledge
  • Leads root cause investigation and implements effectives corrective actions for circumstances where quality standards are not met
  • Monitors product, process and package quality performance and identifies quality related issues and trends.
  • Performs track and trend analysis on quality data and takes the necessary actions to mitigate risk
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement within the quality system and implements tactical solutions to mitigate risk
  • Works with and provides direction across multiple functions including Supply Chain, R&D, Operations, and Regulatory.
  • Communicates confidently and effectively with management, peers, and key stakeholders
  • Prepares Quality documents and ensures accuracy of documents within Quality Systems.
  • Displays working knowledge of applicable product regulations and policies.

  • B. S. in Related field (Food Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Microbiology or other technical science area); Master's degree a plus

  • Knowledge of applicable regulatory standards and requirements for infant formula, adult nutrition, and performance nutrition.
  • Knowledge of food processing techniques, documentation requirements, and lean six sigma methodologies.
  • Knowledge of quality management systems and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient technical writing skills; able to effectively and concisely communicate issues.
  • Ability to effectively organize and communicate technical information
  • Ability to work independently and/or function with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy and analytical thinking.
  • Minimum 3-5 years working experience in the food/nutritional industry and experience in the scale- up and commercialization of product innovations.
  • Knowledge of HACCP and food safety principles
