Job Description:

Parsons is searching for a System Administrator (SA) who can implement, sustain, and maintain the system based on requirements/specifications, customer expectations, and cybersecurity requirements. The SA will be responsible daily care-and-feeding of the systems to include upgrades, patches, routine maintenance, and support of customers - internally and externally. All systems will be held in compliance mandated by the Department of Defense (DoD) and applicable guidelines.

Required Qualifications and Skills

A successful candidate will be able to perform the following tasks and roles:
  • Work closely supervised while following specific, detailed instructions or under general supervision
  • Contacts are primarily with immediate supervisor, project leaders and internal to company or group with infrequent customer contacts
  • Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux system administration, expected to provide technical problem solving and in-depth consulting for problems involving system operations/administration
  • Hands-on experience with Cloud environments (AWS, Azure) and be able to design, create, and maintain per engineering requirements
  • Responsible for automated installation methods and system imaging (e.g. SCCM, VMware)
  • Usage of cryptographic log-on methods (e.g. PKI)
  • DISA STIG implementation / System Hardening and working within Configuration-Managed Environments
  • Work as part of a team responsible for administration and management of servers, end-user workstations in both unclassified and classified network environments; to include system backups, patch management, and group policy definition/maintenance
  • Analysis, design, and implementation of modifications to the system software to improve system performance by correcting errors
  • Participation in planning new hardware acquisitions, interacting with vendors, educating customers, and communicating and collaborating with other projects within the organization
  • Work closely with engineers to help them use workstations and servers to solve their computationally intensive problems
  • Support individual user workstations and associated software support
  • Support for application installation, licenses management, software tracking/distribution and backup/recovery of system configurations and user data files
  • Understand and use essential tools for handling files, directories, command-line environments, and documentation
  • Operate running systems, including booting into different run levels, identifying processes, star/stop virtual machines, and controlling services
  • Configure local storage using partitions and logical volumes
  • Create and configure file systems and file system attributes, such as permissions, encryption, access control lists, and network file systems
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain systems, including software installation, update, patching, and core services
  • Manage users and groups, including use of a centralized directory for authentication
  • Maintain up-to-date Configuration Control and adhere to all Configuration Management requirements for all Firmware, Software, and Hardware associated with the classified and unclassified networks
  • Prepare and submit status reports, and technical briefs, as required, to supervisor, senior management, and customers
  • Provide technical expertise at supervisor meetings, which may include necessary planning and scheduling of meetings
  • Develop, revise, and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance on associated systems and network assets
  • Produce and deliver reports on system utilization
  • Configuring system logging (including remote logging), configure tools such as What's Up gold, CACTI, Solar Winds, etc.
  • Configuring a system to provide networking services, including HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, SMTP, SSH and NTP. Provide systems administration for all clients, servers, and peripherals connected to the classified and unclassified networks.
  • Complete all initial and annual training requirements and disclosures as outlined by BSTG.
  • Perform all other duties as required, consistent with the goals, objectives, and responsibilities of the department

Required Education and Experience
  • Associate degree or 1+ years' experience in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Security, or similar field
  • Requirement: Department of Defense Directive (DoDD) 8140 (formerly DoDD 8570) IAT Level 2 Certification must be obtained prior to or within 60 days of hire. ONE of the following certifications fills this requirement:
    Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Security

    CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst+ (CySA+)

    Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP)

    GIAC Security Essentials (GSEC)

    Security+ CE

    Certified Network Defender (CND)

    Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)

Required Skills/Abilities - Competencies
  • Knowledge of computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies.
  • Knowledge of risk management processes (e.g., methods for assessing and mitigating risk).
  • Knowledge of cyber threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Knowledge of information technology (IT) security principles and methods (e.g., firewalls, demilitarized zones, encryption).
  • Knowledge of network access, identity, and access management (e.g., public key infrastructure, Oauth, OpenID, SAML, SPML).
  • Knowledge of secure configuration management techniques. (e.g., Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), cybersecurity best practices on
  • Knowledge of network security architecture concepts including topology, protocols, components, and principles (e.g., application of defense-in-depth).
  • Knowledge of network protocols such as TCP/IP, Dynamic Host Configuration, Domain Name System (DNS), and directory services.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability information dissemination sources (e.g., alerts, advisories, errata, and bulletins).
  • Knowledge of Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability levels and the NIST 800-53 controls associated with each level.
  • Knowledge of AF and DoD information technology (IT) risk management policies, requirements, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of how to use network analysis tools to identify vulnerabilities.
  • Familiar with configuration management, quality assurance, and test practices/tools
  • Experience in developing and implementing Engineering processes
  • Excellent oral, written, and graphical communication skills; Strong customer service skills
  • Analytical and product management skills required
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; message distribution/retrieval programs

Preferred experience and qualifications
  • Preferred knowledge in Nessus, ACAS, and Security Center; scans, updates, and system troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of encryption algorithms, cryptography, and cryptographic key management concepts
  • Previous DoD experience
  • Previous experience with DoD classified and unclassified networks

Security Clearance Requirements:
  • Ability to obtain or Active DoD Secret Security Clearance (or used within the past 2 years) or
