Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement highly scalable and modular systems incrementally on prem and public cloud
  • Influence overall product architecture and patterns
  • Drive code reusability within and across organizations
  • Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals: unit testing, code reviews, telemetry, agile and DevOps. Ensuring that mature DevOps practices are adopted within the organization
  • Deeply investigate undefined business problems to identify key needs
  • Incubate start-up culture by leading the way with prolific development of code
  • Drive adoption of best practices and agreed up on design patterns
  • Critically examine existing processes and systems and implementing improvements
  • Attract talent to the team through community involvement, keen interviewing skills, and training more junior interviewers
  • Partner with business and technical leaders to manage project commitments in an agile framework, rapidly delivering value to our customers via technology solutions
  • Mentor more junior members of the engineering team to develop and perform as highly as possible
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in oral and written forms, and be able to present and demonstrate work to technical and non-technical leadership
  • Lead the design, build, and scaling of our backend data infrastructure (across data acquisition, pipelines, warehousing, etc.) using the latest in data engineering technologies such that the data platform is reliable, extendable, and performant
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, design, and operations teams to build best-in-class data applications that will support Optum's missions and goals
  • Provide strategic and tactical recommendations for Product.
  • Create migration patterns and tools to quickly migrate databases into Distributed SQL environments, translate database requirements into flexible methodologies that scale to improve operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree or Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years of experience in software engineering and processes including all of these components: design patterns, microservices, serverless functions, algorithms, data structures, schemas and queries, system design, unit testing, code reviews, agile, and dev-ops
  • 8+ years overall engineering track record experience that include driving these practices: continuous integration / continuous delivery, REST API development, serverless architecture, containerization, infrastructure as code, public & private clouds, microservices, application observability, messaging / stream architecture
  • 8+ years of experience with multiple languages such as Java, C#, Python, Scala, Node, Haskell, Rust, Go
  • 6+ years of experience as a Data Engineer using Python, Java, Scala or any other programming language
  • Experience designing and developing data collecting and processing systems to handle large data sets
  • 6+ years of experience and knowledge of modern data warehouse, building scalable pipelines and reporting / analytic techniques
  • 5+ years writing unit or integration tests
  • 2+ years with public cloud, Docker, Linux, PowerShell, JavaScript, Node js, React or other similar technologies
  • 2+ years of experience with DevOps, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Fortify, Sonar)
  • 2+ years of experience in testing frameworks such as Jest, Mocha
  • 2+ years being responsible for software you've written, in production
  • Deep expertise in tools such as Spark,Airflow, Presto/Hive, Spark, or any other streaming technologies to process incredible volumes of data, Looker, Tableau or other reporting tools
  • Demonstrated ability in designing and implementing centralized modern data warehousing/platforms (snowflake/looker/segment/etc) that support self-service analytics
  • Strong knowledge of data architecture, data modeling, statistics, data science and data infrastructure ecosystems
  • Effective communication skills: Work with cross-functional stakeholders and present ideas in a non-technical way
  • Strong knowledge of MySQL, PostGres and anyother RDBMS Oracle, SQLServer, DB2

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with migrating applications to the public cloud
  • Experience building and deploying applications to the public cloud using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform
  • Instrumenting apps with Prometheus/Grafana, and creating effective alarms and dashboards
  • Log indexing tools (e.g. ELK stack, Datadog, Splunk, Sumologic)
  • SRE principles (reliability engineering, error budgets, alarming practices, etc.)
  • Polyglot when it comes to coding languages
  • Experience engineering data pipelines using modern toolsets
  • Experience with ETL tools
  • SQL
  • Experience driving agile transformations

Colorado Residents Only: The salary range for Colorado residents is $94,500 to $171,700. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
