Staff Research Associate II

Responsibilities

The Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior is seeking
to hire a full-time Staff Research Associate II to join the Center for
Sleep Research. You will conduct investigations of the role of hypocretin
neurons in opiate addiction by administering drugs to mice and quantifying
their response. Primary duties include:
  • Prepare electrodes and implant them in mice and rats
  • Conduct quantitative analyses of brain histology using MicroBrightField and Zeiss microscopes and associate software
  • Recording neuronal activity
  • Plan and conduct RNA analyses
  • Measure changes in sleep and pan thresholds
  • Assist in writing up and presenting results for publications
Qualifications
  • Ability to work with electrophysiological and histological equipment including stereotaxic equipment, gas anesthesia for mice and rats, microtome, automated running wheels, electroencephalographs, programs for power spectral and related analysis, programs for data display for publication.
  • Ability to work with lab animals such as mice
  • Phd in Neuroscience or related field (preferred)
