Hospital Lab Tech IV - Supervisor

Responsibilities

Working
in the Department of Ophthalmology, the employee will organize and supervise
all technical aspects of the operation of the Anterior Segment Diagnostic
Laboratory in the Cataract and Refractive Surgery Division. The employee must
be able to work independently and with little direct supervision, reporting
periodically to the chief of the division and the division administrator. The
laboratory consists of five rooms containing diagnostic instruments and is
physically located on the second floor of the Edie and Lew Wasserman Building.
The employee will directly supervise two or more hospital laboratory
technicians.
Qualifications

Required

Knowledge of ophthalmic medical
terminology, anatomy, physiology,
pathology of the visual system, refractive errors, diseases affecting the
eye, how systemic diseases affect the eye, and principles of first aid treatment for ocular and other medical
emergencies.

Knowledge of ophthalmic medications,
proper installation of topical eye drops, and application of eye dressings.

Knowledge of ophthalmic equipment
and sterilization techniques

Skill in acquiring accurate medical
history, measuring and recording
visual acuity, performing lensometry, refractometry,
tonometry, keratometry, topography, pupil check, and other
ophthalmic tests with children and adults.

Ability to organize and prioritize duties to maximize
efficiency. Ability to work under pressure and manage a busy workload.

Maintain patient flow and keep up with demands.

Strong interpersonal and supervision skills to maintain
comfortable, cooperative working relationships with physicians, patients, and
co-workers.

Skill in
working independently without direction.

Ability to work as a team member
in a very busy (and increasingly busier) office and to train and supervise
new technical staff.

Knowledge
of ophthalmic office management.

Ability
to order all instruments, medication and supplies.
