GBI Specialty Engineer (E3)

Parsons is seeking a Ground-Based Interceptor Specialty Engineer.

The Ground-Based Interceptor Specialty Engineer in this position will support the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on Redstone Arsenal, AL. The GBI Specialty Engineer will directly support the GBI Lead Systems Engineer and will work as part of a Systems Engineering Integrated Product Team (IPT) supporting GBI development and delivery activities. The GBI Specialty Engineer will provide technical assistance and support in Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3), Natural Environments, exchange information, and work with all other GBI SE IPT members. The GBI Specialty Engineer will provide support and coordination of Prime Contractor/Government activities required to develop and deliver a desired capability in accordance with the standard Systems Engineering Lifecycle of a program.


Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3):
  • Analyze GBI E3 requirement derivation and design parameters to ensure system and subsystem electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) with the booster (BV), GMD Ground Systems interface, Interceptor Data Terminal (IDT), and BMDS radars
  • Assist the GBI contractor maintain and execute the GBI E3 Control Plan to design-in effective electrical and electronic bonding, grounding, shielding, and noise reduction
  • Assist and support planning, execution, and evaluation of GBI electromagnetic interference (EMI) tests for conducted emissions (CE), conducted susceptibility (CS), radiated emissions (RE), radiated susceptibility (RS), electrostatic discharge (ESD), lightning indirect effects, electromagnetic pulse (EMP), and hazards of EM radiation to personnel (HERP).
  • Assist and support GBI survivability design to survive, communicate and operate through the required High Altitude Exoatmospheric Nuclear Survivability (HAENS) levels

Natural Environment Requirements and Verification:
  • Analyze GBI natural environment requirements derivation, flow-down, and verification (bottom-up) in the areas of terrestrial environments (AR 70-38 / MIL-HDBK-310 /MIL-STD-810G), radio frequency propagation environments (ITU-R 618), lightning - indirect effects (MIL-STD-464C), space environment (ITU-R P372, ASTM E 490-00, AFGL-TR-85-0315, CRÈME-96, MDA-STD-001A, MIL-STD-1809, NASA-SP-8013, NASA-TM-4527 and 103565, and ORDEM).
  • Lead the Specialty Engineering Working Group (WG) of the GBI Systems Engineering (SE) Integrated Product Team (IPT)
  • Participate on the GBI Requirements and Verification Working Group (RVWG). Assist and support the All Up Round (AUR) team, and GMD Robust Homeland Defense (RHD) team.
  • Participate on the GMD Spectrum Management Working Group (SMWG), exchange information and work with the Ground Based Interceptor (GMG) E3 engineer and GMD Readiness Directorate (GMR) Program Protection Lead

Support and Assist:
  • GBI Product Manager and Chief Engineer
  • Numerous IPTs to include: Aft Electronics Module (AEM), Divert and Attitude Control System (DACS) Module, Guidance Unit Module (GUM), Integration and Test, Payload Design, Software and Simulations (SAS), and QSMA and Manufacturing
  • Brief the GMD Requirements and Verification WG on GBI Specialty Engineering. Prepare BMDS Technical Core Standards white papers and evaluations as required.

Education and Experience:
  • BS in engineering or related technical degree
  • 8+ years of related experience; experience in MDA is desired but not mandatory
  • Capable of performing as a member of a team and assisting with solving complex problems
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
  • Self-Starter with enthusiasm and capacity to learn in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills required
  • Secret Clearance required
  • Travel as required to support oversight, meetings, reviews, etc.
Must be able to obtain, maintain and/or currently possess a security clearance.
