Summary

Job Description:

The Perioperative Departmental Secretary participates as a member of the perioperative team. She/He is responsible for the receptionist and secretarial duties on the unit, while also functioning as a point of entry greeter. The Departmental Secretary is accountable for chart preparation for surgical patients prior to the day of service to ensure that all required elements are present, including orders and protocols specific to cases. The Departmental Secretary has excellent communication skills, particularly exemplary phone etiquette and communicates with patients, families, physicians, anesthesia team members, as well as, vendors and ancillary departments. The Departmental Secretary communicates with the PeriOp PCC and the Perioperative staff regarding any pending lab orders or results, or special needs of the patient. The Departmental Secretary posts minutes for meetings as requested by the manager or executive director. The Departmental Secretary reports to the Clinical Manager of Surgical Services. The Departmental Secretary ensures that all services are delivered in accordance with the mission statement and SPIRIT values of Carroll Hospital Center.

Qualifications:
  • 2 years of experience or less
  • High School diploma preferred

  • Intermediate Clerical skills
  • General knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software and the ability to manipulate spreadsheets
  • Databases and publication software
