Lab Coordinator

Under direction of the Principal
Investigator, the Lab Coordinator will perform laboratory procedures in
cellular immunology and virology and support the analysis and management of
data. Perform molecular biology and immunology experiments in the study of
the inflammatory and cellular immune responses in viral infections including
HIV-1 infection and COVID-19, and review data. Given challenges with the
COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing policies related to social distancing, the
employee is expected to be fully independent (or require minimal
training/supervision) in performing essential experimental techniques for the
laboratory such as cell culture, working with virus, immunoassays (ELISA,
Luminex, flow cytometry, immunofluorescence) and animal procedures (phlebotomy,
injections, tissue dissections). Must be comfortable following upper level
biosafety procedures related to working with biospecimens (blood, tissues,
cells) from COVID-19+ and HIV-1 infected patients. Supervise less senior lab
personnel (SRAI, students, lab assistants). Also, maintain basic functions of
the laboratory including maintenance of equipment for tissue culture
(incubators, centrifuges, freezers, liquid nitrogen) and
inventorying/ordering/stocking of supplies (disposables, medium, cell
lines). As needed, perform literature searches to gather information
relating to current research projects. Organize data for easy access and
may perform any special projects as assigned by the Principal Investigator.
* Tissue culture experience * General immunology assays (ELISA, ELISPOT)* Flow cytometry* Ability to run experiments designed by the Principal Investigator with guidance from the laboratory manager* Knowledge of laboratory equipment, and supplies; maintenance of appropriate inventories and stock. * Ability to work with virus (BSL2+)* Experience with animal work (phlebotomy, maintenance, dissections)* Working knowledge of personal computer operation, including MS Word and MS Excel software programs.* Ability to expand skills as the needs of the laboratory changes over many years * Minimum of one year laboratory experience (paid position).
