The Facebook Reality Labs team is building products that make it easier for people to connect with the ones they love most. As an Electrical Engineer within the multidisciplinary Concept Design Team, you will employ your expertise in problem solving and prototyping to accelerate product development across Facebook's hardware organization. You will collaborate with teams within Hardware Engineering, Research and Development, and Industrial Design. These projects cover a wide variety of technical challenges unique to Facebook's hardware portfolio, including Oculus, Portal, and beyond. The team is responsible for rapidly building and iterating polished high-fidelity prototypes and development platforms that bring new ideas to life by expressing design intent and user experience - using the best and most appropriate tools and techniques for the task. We are seeking an Electrical Engineer who has a passion for working across disciplines to turn early cutting edge concepts and technologies into reality. As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for systems architecture, design of new concepts, technologies and product development.You must be able to work with minimal guidance, demonstrate a high attention to detail, be partnership-oriented and possess strong problem-solving skills. You must be a self-starter, well-organized and have excellent communication skills. Our team is constantly growing and you will be relied upon to help define team direction and be motivated to improve the effectiveness of our tools and processes from each project to the next.

Required Skills

  • Partner with Design, Engineering and Research teams to identify and solve complex design and technological challenges
  • Designing, simulating, prototyping, debugging and testing of embedded systems which combine electronics, mechanics, optics and software with end-to-end ownership of product design throughout early product development
  • Building schematics, completing board layouts, assembling, testing, debugging, and integrating designs into opto-electro-mechanical systems
  • Collaborating in a team environment with cross-functional teams such system engineering, architecture, product design, NPI and research
  • Specifying components
  • Transforming vendor reference designs into custom solutions
  • Ability to execute multiple streams of work simultaneously and independently balance and prioritize project workload to ensure success against timeline constraints

Minimum Qualification

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience with system-level electrical design including circuit design, system bring-up, integration, and debug
  • Experience with low-power circuit design, DC/DC converters, power management methods, audio circuit design, and analog design
  • Experience with processor architecture, digital circuit design and various communications protocols such as I2C, UART, SPI, USB, MIPI, I2S, etc.
  • Hands-on experience with debugging and related equipment (Oscilloscope, Multimeters, Logic Analyzers, etc.)
  • Experience with mixed-signal board-level design
  • Collaboration and communication skills with experience managing cross-team and cross-geography collaboration, experience managing by influence
  • Experience leading and driving design development from schematic capture, PCB layout through assembly
  • Experience partnering with software teams to define and implement firmware, drivers and algorithms
  • Demonstrated domain knowledge in compute & systems development, proven track record in building advanced technology & product development

Preferred Qualification

  • 5+ years of end-to-end integrated product development experience, including early-stage conceptual design, detailed design for manufacturing and assembly, late-stage mass production experience, overseas manufacturing and assembly
  • Experience leading a multidisciplinary product engineering team, with oversight into mechanical, electrical, and firmware workstreams and integration between disciplines
  • Systems-level engineering experience with complex integrated electromechanical assemblies
  • Understanding of Facebook products and technologies
  • Experience integrating RF technologies such as WiFi, BT, GPS, etc.
  • Experience with embedded devices
  • Experience with Cadence's suite of schematic entry and layout tools
  • Experience with cameras and optical systems
  • Experience with Android/Linux systems
