The Engineering Manager in Growth Platforms plays a crucial role in helping to grow our subscriber base by building capabilities that help accelerate teams to experiment on growth objectives.

The Role & Opportunity

You will be partnering with cross-functional partners across two teams within our Growth Platforms group. Your job is to help set a technical direction and ensure quality engineering work is enabled and supported. Additionally, you will be the voice of your engineers with a role of empowering them and providing them feedback and career growth opportunities.

You will manage the Messaging Experience team which provides centralized support for our on-site messaging experiences that power our subscriber journey. This is a new team that will provide governance and support to feature teams, allowing for rapid experimentation while maintaining long-term quality and capabilities.

You will also manage our new Design System team, which provides a centralized design system from teams across the subscriber journey. This role will require helping to build out the team and the team's POV on how a design system is best managed and maintained across multiple teams.

Your responsibilities also include:
  • Helping to usher in a shared design system utilized by multiple teams
  • Implementing consistency in our messaging experiences for our readers
  • Improving developer experience for teams that utilize our messaging capabilities
  • Implementing robust observability of capability usages and business performance
  • Enhancing targeting, data, and api needs for improved messaging capabilities
  • Hire open engineering headcount to optimize team performance


Required experience
  • You have experience managing engineers at all levels, including hiring and growing them
  • You've been involved in the architecture of systems at scale and understand what quality means at that level
  • You've worked cross-functionally with diverse set of team partners and understand how to advocate for engineering while maintaining strong relationships
  • You have a fundamental understanding of Node.js and React and at least one other backend language (i.e. GoLang, Java)


Nice-to-have experience
  • Experience implementing design systems used by multiple teams
  • Experience managing centralized messaging capabilities or messaging units
  • Experience integrating with Machine Learning algorithms
  • Knowledge of scaling systems in GoLang
