You will:

The primary responsibility of the senior data engineer will be to perform elicit data requirements, profile datasets and drive the delivery of innovative, quality data products for the Human Health Insights Engine US Data Hub which is a data warehouse that supports US commercial operations. This will include the following:

  • Profile datasets and partner with data suppliers and data owners to prepare data technical metadata/data dictionary and assess the data fit for the requested business purpose
  • Partner with business and IT teams to understand their data needs and to design conformed datasets which can be broadly used to fulfil those requirements
  • Define the data acquisition patterns to be used for new datasets prioritized in the data product backlog
  • Design curated datasets which fulfill the user needs prioritized in the data product backlog. These datasets may include creation of new metrics; application of business rules; harmonization/deduplication of datasets across multiple sources; and aggregation of datasets
  • Actively assess performance and quality of existing datasets to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Identify new data patterns and design standardized methods for addressing those patterns in partnership with the solution architect
  • Provide 3rd line support to investigate complex production data issues which cannot be resolved by production support teams
  • As a data subject matter expert, support the Business in the understanding and interpretation of commercial data and help to derive approaches for how data can be used to support effective commercial operations
  • Communicate requirements to and direct data product developers/testers who will implement the data acquisition and curation activities
  • Define and manage metadata describing the curated and conformed datasets contained within the US Data Hub
  • Present data requirements and outcomes of data analysis to the Business and internal IT colleagues.
  • Actively facilitate in project scoping and/or business requirement sessions
  • Collaborate with vendors to drive solutions and influence product solution road map
  • Provide support to design, construction and testing phases of the project(s)
  • Collaborate with other team members (involved in the requirements gathering, testing, roll-out and operations phases) to ensure seamless transitions.
  • Mentor junior analysts to drive best practice analysis on all projects

Educational Requirements:
  • B.S. or M.S. in IT, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field


Required Experience:
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, with demonstrated expertise in the BI and Analytics space
  • Experience doing data analysis and engineering, using SQL, GLUE and other standard data querying and profiling tools.
  • Experience with database and ETL Tools
  • Experience with leading requirements sessions with clients and project teams.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills along with the ability to present clear and concise solutions to stakeholders and IT partners


Preferred Experience:
  • 4+ years of data engineering and design experience
  • 2+ years of experience with cloud-based data warehouse and/or data lake solutions
  • Deep understanding of data management best practices and data analytics
  • Ability to distill complex concepts into easy-to-understand frameworks and presentations
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and best practices.
  • Knowledge of data profiling tools (i.e. Glue).
  • Experience working with pharmaceutical commercial data
  • Up to speed with latest technologies in data engineering, data warehousing, and data management
  • Ability to work independently in a complex environment
  • Experience working with on and off-shore engineering resources, including vendor delivery teams
  • High Proficiency in Information Management, Data Analysis and Data Requirement Elicitation
  • Strong communication and leadership skills and possess the ability to forge strong working relationships with various stakeholders
  • Experience with data warehouse/data lake design and data modeling concepts.
