Senior Project Lead - Release Train Engineer

As a Senior Project Lead in the Disability Evolution organization in Cary NC, you will be accountable for managing multiple mid-size and large projects and/or lead work streams on larger, strategic projects, providing overall leadership and supervision to assigned project team resources. This person must successfully manage projects/release trains with limited guidance of a coach/ mentor and must also be able to manage the expectations and interests of project team members, key sponsors, & stakeholders to ensure their continued support and appropriate participation in the project. The ideal candidate will aid in the transformation of this role from Sr Project Lead to Release Train Engineer. May also participate in the Lean-Agile transformation, coaching leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in the new processes and mindsets. They help configure SAFe to the organization's needs, standardizing and documenting practices

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide and manage the ART and teams through the delivery of software and services, embracing and promoting the Agile mindset.
  • Work with Product Management, Product Owners and other stakeholders to define mission value and prioritize work to help ensure strategy and execution alignment.
  • Leverage internal and external stakeholders to deliver assigned components of programs, focused on those related to vendor management
  • Establish cadence, facilitate and drive the agile ceremonies such as PI Planning, Product Owner Sync, Scrum of Scrums, Inspect and Adapt Workshop, Innovation and Sprint Planning events. Summarize team Program increments (PIs) Objectives into Program PI Objectives and publish them for visibility and transparency.
  • Facilitate escalation for impediment removal for the Scrum Master and Scrum teams by fostering collaboration throughout the ART. Coach leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Safe-Agile practices and mindsets
  • Coach teams through the exploration and adoption of agile engineering practice (e.g., test automation, CI/CD, BDD, Agile Architecture)
  • Foster a team collaborative environment breaking down silos between groups and contributes to the Agile community
  • Facilitate PI Planning readiness by fostering a continuous exploration process which drives the vision, roadmap, and backlogs through Pre- and Post-PI planning meetings.
  • Track and produce key metrics (e.g., burn-down charts, cumulative flow diagrams). Capture relevant data to support management reporting needs; align program reporting with broader enterprise reporting processes
  • Help track and manage program risk.
  • Create and maintain PI Boundary documentation to ensure auditory compliance.
  • Standardize and document best SAFe practices

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

  • 4+ years of experience as a Project Manager, systems engineer, tester or developer
  • 4+ years' of experience working in a scaled Agile environment (multiple teams supporting single product)
  • 2+ years' experience in ScrumMaster or project management role managing large-scale initiatives in complex organizations
  • Experience with driving a release train for vendor software delivery
  • Exceptional, analytical, communication, prioritization, and program management skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting multiple scrum/Kanban teams
  • Previous experience engaging stakeholders, contributors and technical resources to analyze user needs and resource limitations
  • Strong communication, initiative, strategic thinking, and analytical skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Technology-related field
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships within all levels of the organization including driving decisions and presenting to senior leadership
  • Identify roadblocks, evaluate needs, and drive solutions proactively and effectively
  • Experience/knowledge of key Agile techniques including Kanban, Lean, XP, and Scrum
  • Project expertise with tools (JIRA, TFS, Confluence)
  • Scaled Agile certifications (SA, SPC, RTE) Certified Scrum Master
