Senior Research Histology Technician - Hematopathology

SUMMARY

Provide technical skills in the preparation of tissue specimens for research experiments

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Laboratory Functions Prepares routine research histology preparations using standard
procedures utilizing superior skills and knowledge. Sorts and identifies specimens, labels, slides, cuts, stains coverslips specimens prepares
solutions and maintains laboratory equipment; assists with the gross
examination of surgical and biopsy specimens. Maintains grossing/
sample collection work area and related supplies; verifies patient
consent status for the use of residual tissue and data in research
protocols by utilizing an institutional database; assists with collections, characterization and archiving of fresh tissue samples for research
purposes. Performs tissue sectioning, routine staining of sections,
immunohistochemistry and microscopy.

Track Supplies File blocks, slides and related documents; observe levels of supplies and communicates to supervisor any need for ordering; put away supplies; other duties as required

Record keeping/maintenance Maintain equipment and prepares solutions as necessary; assist investigators and Chief Technician in all requests; keep records on work in progress, daily workload recording and QA records. Basic computer skills
are a must.


High school diploma or equivalent. With required education, three years of Histology Technician experience. With Associate's degree, one year experience in histopathology within the last ten years under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, or eligible) or an appropriately certified medical scientist. With successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Histotechnician program, no experience is required.
