We have an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Laboratory Operations Production Manager within our Toxicology BU of Abbott Rapid Diagnostics division located in Richmond, VA. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining acceptable drug testing laboratory performance in accordance with the SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and those of other regulatory organizations for all screen negative test results generated by the laboratory.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work collaboratively with Lab Director and to ensure effective day-to-day operations in the Toxicology laboratory
  • Develop and implement processes that ensure timely, accurate processing and analysis of samples in each testing phase
  • Continuously assess the health of lab operations to further efficiencies, focus on quality and improve production to drive the development and operationalization of effective processes capable of meeting quality, cost and service objectives
  • Ensure adequate resources - personnel, equipment, etc., - is maintained to support testing
  • Works with laboratory operations team and cross-functional personnel as appropriate to meet department and project objectives.
  • Utilizes current field-specific core technologies and approaches to problem solving.
  • Lead projects and key initiatives, set standards, and train staff.
  • Engage in continuous process and service improvement
  • Evaluate new process improvements and make appropriate recommendations based on thorough evaluation of technical, quality and efficiency impact
  • Assist with monitoring sample progression and respond to sample status inquiries from customer service as needed
  • Adhere to all security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor information
  • Must comply with company policies


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS | EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences in biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and/or toxicology


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's Degree in Toxicology or equivalent body of study.
  • Project Management


COMPETENCIES:
  • Advanced ability to understand analytical techniques and procedures
  • Advanced ability to understand laboratory instrumentation
  • Ability to understand certification requirements for SAMHSA, CAP-FUDT, and other regulatory bodies
  • Advanced ability to understand the function of a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and other laboratory computer systems
  • Advanced ability to communicate ideas
  • Advanced ability to teach others
  • Advanced ability to write technical procedures
