HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant Ito support the Center for Prostate Disease Research (CPDR), located at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to CPDR. US citizenship is required.

The incumbent will support efforts of the CPDR clinical/research laboratory. The incumbent's primary responsibility will be to ensure accurate performance of research project including collecting of patient information and data. Also recruiting, enrolling, consenting, subjects CPDR master protocols.

Responsibilities:
  1. Recruiting, enrolling, and consenting subjects for biospecimen and database consents. Works with laboratory staff to ensure accurate performance of research project, including collection of patient information, collection of biospecimen, tissue blocks, and data. Makes detailed observations regarding study criteria. Works in collaboration with support project staff and laboratory team to ensure appropriate and timely specimen/data collection when ordered.Incumbent will perform tasks to prepare aliquots and/or specimens and tissue for shipment/transfer to outside facility, collaborators, and investigators/institutions. (50%)
  2. Performs Phlebotomy procedures on patients seeing providers in the clinic for laboratory test orders, research studies, follow up prostate care and clinical trials. (15%)
  3. Performed data entry for biospecimen bank database. Ensured confidentiality of patients; analyzed data for accuracy and completion. Reports all observed or potential collection of specimen/data problems and issues. Assist in maintaining inventory levels of laboratory materials supplies and reagents. (15%)
  4. Performs preventive, routine daily, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance on equipment as required. Report all observed or potential laboratory equipment problems and issues, keep the laboratory area clean. (10%)
  5. Requires ability lift 40 to 50 lbs. as well handling in an extreme low temperature specimens using appropriate PPE. Incumbent must be able to stand and/ long walk between two clinic. (10%)
  6. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques; ability to follow detailed instructions; good communication and analytical skills. Ability to work independently once trained and maintains excellent records with a keen attention to detail. Experience consenting patients, patient care and blood draws strongly preferred. Must have clinical lab/research experience.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree is required.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements:Minimum 0-2 years of relevant work experience required.

Work Environment: Set in a clinical work environment.

Background/Security: U.S. citizenship required; eligible to obtain and maintain a Tier III Investigation/ Secret Clearance and Common Access Card (CAC).
