Platform Engineer

Job Summary

The Platform Engineer will be responsible for development of the Facets project portfolio. He/She will work collaboratively across business and IT functions to deliver necessary updates to keep the platform stable and n-1 compliant, assist in the triage of production issues, work with business and IT portfolio partners on enhancement requests, and lead technical solutions. He/She, with limited oversight from manager, will work with the platform owner to triage issues, plan updates, and create the platform roadmap.


Technical Consultant
  • Work with platform owner to provide solution guidance for Facets to teams within BSC
  • Document and communicate design and coding best practices
  • Collaborates with Cognizant and platform owner to recommend technical features & enhancements to improve the core Facets product & platform
  • Influence designs and technical implementation to support platform performance, stability & scalability
  • Responsible for platform scalability & ensuring platform can support planned growth
  • Keeps a high-level view of all planned projects so technical recommendations can be made based on full scope of work
  • Engages Application/System Architecture when appropriate
  • Work with support teams to identify patterns and ways to improve the applications, platform and custom code with a goal of reducing cost, improving quality, and improving efficiency
  • Makes innovative recommendations on tools & processes to improve IT efficiency
  • Builds strong relationships and drives alignment on technical solutions
  • Participates in design reviews and unit test plans/results per SDLC phase gates as necessary
  • Enforces coding standards


Knowledge and Experience
  • Requires a BS/BA degree in Computer Science or other technical fields or equivalent experience, and minimum 10 years of prior relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Facets including business processes and systems analysis
    Working knowledge of health plan operations including enrollments and claim processing systems, and customer service
  • Excellent interpersonal, team, customer service and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Understanding of health plan legal, brand, and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Requires practical knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience
  • Familiar with standard software development tools, including incident tracking, documentation, and testing systems
  • Self-directed, works with limited management direction and exercise considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment
  • Ability to build strong relationships and drive alignment on difficult topics
  • Familiarity with multiple software delivery models (Waterfall, Agile, etc.)

Physical Requirements

Office Environment - roles involving part to full time schedule in Office Environment. Based in our physical offices and work from home office/deskwork - Activity level: Sedentary, frequency most of work day.
