Sr. Category Manager- Direct Materials (Procurement)

About This Role
This is a global, strategic sourcing position responsible for sourcing projects related to the Category of Direct materials spend, to support Biogen Sites. This includes developing and executing sourcing strategies that deliver high value short term and long term by mitigating risk, improving quality, and reducing cost, by amongst others, implementing Dual Sourcing Strategies, in depth Risk Management. This function leads cross-functional teams & collaborates with key stakeholders to obtain sponsorship, understands their sourcing needs, perform market research, devises sourcing strategies, leads supplier selection process (e.g. competitive bidding, partnership development, consolidation/reducing risks) and negotiates contracts. In addition, this role leads broader category management including supplier relationship management by partnering with the assigned business units to facilitate supplier performance monitoring, continuous improvement and innovation.

What You'll Do
• Developing and executing of sourcing strategies within assigned category. This includes analyzing category spend to understand current state, obtaining business requirements from key internal clients, identifying and leading cross-functional teams, conducting market research and creating a sourcing strategy from these elements of due diligence.
This includes performing all business-related steps of the sourcing initiative, negotiating contracts, and transitioning to the business units for operational implementation.
• Supplier relationship management. This includes development and tracking of key performance indicators for the category of spend, facilitating strategic supplier-company business meetings that drive adherence to contractual agreements, continuous improvement and innovation.
• Client Engagement. Lead client engagement efforts at the site operations management level to ensure Sourcing is aligned with their objectives, while securing their sponsorship to meet corporate imperatives (e.g., social responsibility, diversity, compliance, savings, etc.) and to assign subject-matter experts to participate in sourcing projects. Regularly solicit feedback from project-level stakeholders to ensure Sourcing is performing well and continuously improving.
• Category maintenance. This includes contract life-cycle management (e.g., renewing expiring contracts, updating pricing annually, etc.), category databases (e.g., refreshing internal business requirement/impact metrics, supplier capabilities database, etc.), scanning the marketplace for changes and managing any known or potential business impact and developing risk mitigation plans.
• Continuous Improvement. This includes both department/category business process improvements (e.g., enhancements to the sourcing process, development or revision of key sourcing procedures, documenting processes, etc.) and personal development.

Qualifications

Who You Are

• Minimum of 7 years of experience in the following topics.
o Sourcing and negotiating a variety contracts.
o Strong experience in mainly Direct Materials.
o Project management experience.
o Working in a client-facing or customer service role (e.g., consulting, supply chain, etc.)
• Experience in the Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry and knowledge of technical business functions and GxPs is preferred.
• Strong experience working in a matrix environment with indirect reporting structures.
• Ability to communicate effectively with business unit clients
• Excellent presentation skills
• Ability to develop, enhance and execute on processes and procedures
• Strong project management skills

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Life Sciences or a related field.
