Senior Project Manager - HR

Job Overview:

This position supports delivery against all project and process management phases for assigned global projects (one or more) within Global Human Resources. This person will work closely with the Project Leader, assigned IT Project Manager, and Covance HR Leadership to ensure non-technology and technology based deliverables are in alignment.

  • Project Planning and Execution: Accountable to deliver assigned projects on time and on budget. Responsible for timely and accurate reporting of project status including creation of regular project dashboards and tracking of project cost and resource usage.
  • Responsible for the creation and management of a detailed project plan for each assigned project.
  • Responsible for the collection, cataloguing, and maintenance of a variety of project documentation including requirements gathering, risk identification and mitigation, etc.
  • M onitors compliance with project management and process management standards, policies, procedures, and templates.
  • Completes tasks within an assigned project work streams.
  • Manages project budget against plan, giving visibility to overages and underspent funds.
  • May facilitate global process improvement and process management activities.
  • May participate in the Project Management of two or more efforts comprising an HR Center of Excellence Program or special initiative.
  • Team and Stakeholder Management: Facilitates identification of key stakeholders, communication and change needs and ensures appropriate stakeholder engagement for all levels of the organization throughout the project life cycle.
  • Provides pro-active advice and counsel to the program leader and team members on best practice to ensure project success.
  • Supports program leader in project level (cross work stream) change and communications.
  • Responsible for understanding roles and responsibilities with all assigned project tasks to make recommendations and assignments.
  • Facilitates project teams in problem resolution, such as deviation from project plans.
  • Instills a culture of continuous improvement, quality and productivity. Seeks opportunities to improve process and may facilitate process improvement projects.
  • Facilitates work stream meetings, updates to steering committees, etc.


Education/Qualifications:

Required:

  • University/college degree required
  • Ability to perform intermediate/advanced computer skills


  • Preferred:

  • Project Management Certification preferred (CAPM, PMP, Prince2, etc.)
  • Process Improvement certification (e.g. 6-sigma, TQM, process engineering) preferred
  • Experience with Mergers & Acquisitions


  • Experience:

    • Progressive project management responsibilities, ability to complete both strategic and hands on tactical deliverables.
    • Demonstrates Emotional Intelligence; modifies communication style to meet the needs of stakeholders
    • Experience in managing large scale or complex projects that span multiple years, countries, systems, etc.
    • Creative and resilient in application of processes and approach to work
    • Excellent communication, presentation, influencing and facilitation skills
    • Project management skills, including time management, planning and budgeting
    • Ability to prioritize and multitask.


    Preferred:

    • Relevant functional HR knowledge/depth highly desirable
    • HCM Workday exposure
    • Experience managing the strategic and tactical interaction of related Projects
    • Previous experience of driving continuous improvement
    • Experience in Health, Life Science, Pharmaceutical or CRO industry.
    • Proven track record of delivering a multiple concurrent global and strategic projects within the constraints of scope, quality, time and cost
    • Demonstrated ability to operate in detailed and strategic contexts simultaneously
    • Prior experience in working with external vendors
    • Demonstrated strong customer service skills
    • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
    • Strong planning, organizational and problem solving skills
    • Demonstrated a high degree of initiative and ability to work collaboratively
