Virtual Simulation Team Leader (2021)

Nexteer is currently focused on expanding its virtual engineering organization and developing simulation technology which would replace the need for a vehicle for early development phase. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who enjoys advanced virtual simulation technology combined with leadership and an inclination for cross functional work. The candidate should value learning, helping others, and collaborating. This position requires skills in virtual simulation, mentorship, attention to detail, and time management. This position is responsible for guiding the core virtual engineering team, tasked with virtual simulation, development, tool support, and project management. This position is also responsible for continued growth/capability of the simulation technology with motivation to actualize Nexteer's vision. Partial remote work possibilities.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop vision and mission, and support direct reports
  • Recruit, train, and allocate engineering resources, administer performance reviews
  • Lead the systems organization along virtual simulation pathway towards creation of virtual vehicle
  • Lead the use of simulation tools for system analysis, development and V&V
  • Creation of simulation methodology and tool to support algorithm development, calibration analysis, and validation
  • Support & manage system model change control
  • Support peer review activities for modelling
  • Provide simulation input to new business pursuit, and interface with customers as needed
  • Stay abreast of developments in virtual simulation techniques
  • Support review boards
  • Lead design and development of features in line with the Tech Roadmap
  • Provide support and input to safety team for early core safety strategy analysis including fault injection testing
  • Lead project management activities across core systems engineering for simulation activities


Required Skills:
  • General competency in all core fields (mechanical, electronics, computer hardware and software)
  • Experience performing simulations/calculations with MATLAB/Simulink
  • Experience with model-based design, model-in-the-loop testing
  • Knowledge of verification and validation techniques
  • Strong risk and issues management, causal analysis, and decision analysis/resolution capability
  • Positive & proactive attitude with excellent leadership qualities and negotiation skills
  • Ability to mentor/grow competency in others
  • Excellent communication skills and a desire to work with people
  • High degree of organization, accuracy, and time management skills
  • Positive attitude towards learning of new/different simulation tools


Preferred Skills:
  • Understanding of control theory
  • Experience with embedded systems calibrations and importing into Simulink
  • Experience with embedded system Simulink models, including s-function creation
  • Experience with Simulink co-simulation, e.g. CarSim,Carmaker
  • Experience leading projects through the development cycle to a successful conclusion
  • Experience interfacing with cross functional teams to successfully deliver project commitments
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics (steering, braking, suspension, driveline), mechanical systems, electronic systems, and computer hardware and software
  • Excellent problem definition and solving techniques
  • Interest in developing leadership skills, including concepts of "start with why", constructive culture, servant leader, mission and vision
  • Knowledge of systems engineering "V", as well as model based systems engineering (MBSE)
  • Knowledge of IBM Jazz suite, including DNG, RTC, Rhapsody, Architecture Management, RQM, Global Configuration
  • Understanding of project management concepts, methodologies, and associated tools


Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with 5 years experience in controls or simulation, or Master's in electrical or mechanical engineering with emphasis in controls or simulation with 2 years experience in controls or simulation
