The Cardiovascular and Metabolic Disease Area (CVM) of the Novartis Institutes for Biomedical Research (NIBR) is committed to changing this alarming statistic by discovering transformative medicines to treat cardiovascular and metabolic disorders.

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our Cell Biology team. Here you will advance our understanding of disease biology, contribute to target identification efforts, and work towards the discovery and optimization of new drugs. The work involves collaboration with a host of basic research scientists across multiple disciplines as well as the clinicians who bring our drugs to patients.

What you will do:
•Devise, develop and perform assays for drug discovery, including ion channel research and other cell-based/biophysical/biochemical techniques.
•Support target validation and mechanism-of-action projects, including work with primary cells, human iPSC derived cardiomyocytes, and/or tissues.
•Conduct data analyses and documentation of experiments.
•Collaborate effectively while working in a matrixed environment.
•Employ good laboratory, data recording and data documentation practices.
•Present results in lab and department meetings.
•Assist in writing research documents and publications.

Minimum requirements

What you will bring to the role:
• MS degree in biochemistry, molecular or cell biology, biophysics, biomedical engineering or a related field, or a BS degree and at least 3 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Familiarity with cell culture is required.
• Flexibility and aptitude for learning, with the ability to quickly grasp new techniques and apply them to your work.
• Experience in generation, analysis, and presentation of scientific data.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work optimally in a matrixed team environment.
• A record of accomplishment, as validated by publications or abstracts, is preferred, whereas previous industrial experience is not essential.
Desired skills
• Experience in independently developing and executing cell-based assays for drug discovery is preferred.
• Experience with ion channel-related research or iPSC derived cells is a plus, but not required.
