Armstrong Commercial Ceilings is looking for an Industrial Designer to collaborate with our dynamic team to develop inspiring ceiling solutions for our customers.  Within the Industrial Designer role, you will develop and support variety of programs, from inception to delivery.

As a key team member, you will utilize design prcoess thinking and enjoy collaborating with business partners.  As well as, have the talent to clearly articulate your ideas through concept sketching, 2D and 3D computer modeling, presentations, and the ability to produce physical prototypes and install mockup installations.

This role requires a motivated design thinker that can inspire others, generate new to the world concepts, and then bring them to life by collaborating with cross-functional partners.

What you'll be doing:

  • Partnering with internal team members in brainstorming solutions, and other design focused activities in support of broader business initiatives.
  • Developing creative concepts while ensuring solutions are aligned with business strategy, customer insights,  performance, product safety and manufacturing capability.
  • Participating in customer research, benchmarking activities, and ideation sessions
  • Leading design and development activities for new ceiling system products, including new innovations, product line extensions, and existing system enhancements.
  • Providing creative support to enable project teams design objectives, advocate good design, visualize solutions, and be an enabler of new technologies.
  • Producing technical drawings for product specifications & support technical installation detail drawings to support product commercialization and installation literature & web content  
  • Provide hands-on support to build sample components and lead the physical assembly of prototype installations.
  • Operating CNC prototype production equipment, CNC Laser cutter, Mill, and Router.
  • Supporting and providing design guidance to team members and business partners.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Architecture, or Interior Design.
  • 2+ years of design experience including research, concept development, construction methodology, materials application, and mechanical development.
  • Proactive leadership skills and the ability to identify design opportunities that can impact the business.
  • A strong portfolio of diverse work that demonstrates innovative solutions, creative thinking, and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoDeskSuite.
  • Hands on skills in prototyping and building large scale mockup installations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience as a Product Designer.
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor & Vault
  • Experience specifying ceiling systems.
  • Experience with BIM, and Revit software.
  • Knowledge of sustainability, integrated design and LEED guidelines.
  • Knowledge of architectural/interior finishes, lighting integration, building regulations, and safety codes.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, andprinciplesinvolved in the production of precision technical drawings, models, and documentation.
