Elevator Technician

Overview

Please be aware the work location for this role will be Cuba.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs elevator equipment, controls, lighting and circuits. Ensures work in in accordance with NAVFAC MO-118 and ASME A17.2. This position supports electricians in the diagnostic, repair, and installation of electrical equipment. Performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on electrical support equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs elevators, lifts and similar equipment.
  • Troubleshoots and locates malfunction in brakes, motors, switches, hydraulics and signal and control systems using test equipment.
  • Reads and interprets schematics.
  • Disassembles defective unit and cleans, repairs or replaces controller parts, generators, and brushes.
  • Replace cables, elevator doors, perform major modernization and alteration work, such as replacing electric motors, hydraulic pumps, and control panels.
  • Inspect wiring connections, control panel hookups, door installation, and alignment and clearance of car hoist way.
  • Lubricates bearings and other parts to minimize friction.
  • Operates elevator to determine power demand and tests power consumption to detect overload factors.
  • Estimates and orders replacement parts.
  • Removes passengers from stuck elevators.
  • Performs acceptance and routine inspections, conducts annual testing required in accordance with PWS requirements.
  • Keeps Service Records and updates Maintenance Control Program Technical Information
  • Cleans machine room and elevator pits.
  • Performs other general building maintenance as needed.
  • Participates in the training of apprentices and/or other workers as needed.

Qualifications

  • MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education/Certifications: 2 years related experience may be substituted for one year of education, if degree is required.
  • 1. High School graduate or equivalent
  • 2. Valid driver's license.
  • 3. Certified Elevator Technician (CET) by National Association of Elevator Contractors (NAEC) NAVFAC MO-118 requirements are met by having one of the following:
  • 1. At least 3 years as a Journeyman in the Electrical or Mechanical trades
  • 2. Technical education by recognized Engineering degree
  • 3. 3 years of experience as an Engineering Technician
  • 4. One year of experience in design, construction, maintenance or inspection of elevators, platform lifts, dumbwaiters or escalators.
  • 5. At least two months on-the-job training in the inspection of elevators, platform lifts, dumbwaiters or escalators which must include at least 20 inspections with a certified activity, EFD or contractor inspector.
  • 6. Satisfactory completion of the NAVFACENGCOM Elevator Inspector Training Course. b. Satisfactory completion of the Elevator Safety Education Training Course and Certification by the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA). c. Certification by the Building Officials and Code Administrators International Incorporated (BOCA).
  • 4. Contractor Personnel shall be authorized by NAVFACENGCOM to inspect VTE if the requirements of I, II, or III have been satisfied as follows:
  • 1. a. Certification to inspect elevators by the licensing authority of a political subdivision (such as state, territory, county or city) of the United States or Canada as approved by NAVFACENGCOM.
  • 2. b. Satisfactory completion of the Elevator Safety Education Training Course and Certification by the National Association of Elevator Safety Authorities (NAESA).
  • 3. c. Certification by the Building Officials and Code Administrators International Incorporated (BOAC).
  • EXPERIENCE
  • Personnel performing inspections and tests on VTEs must be qualified per NAVFAC MO-118. All VTE work shall be performed by qualified and trained elevator mechanics. VTE mechanics shall have a minimum of (4) years' experience in performing maintenance, repair, and inspection services.
