Supervisor-LC/MS Discovery BioA

Job Overview:

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

To supervise the activities of scientific and operational staff responsible for Discovery Bioanalytical projects and analysis of samples. Leads lab processes, studies, and projects with minimal supervision. Supports training, development, and scheduling. Responsible for analytical data review and data management, as applicable.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Actively performs laboratory work within the scope of discovery study support, automated sample extractions, and routine and/or non-routine analyses in a variety of matrices and in compliance with appropriate SOPS. Documents, works, and maintains study documentation and laboratory records.
  • Schedules staff and assigns resources.
  • Openly transfers knowledge to assist indirect reports with manual and automated routine sample extraction, LCMS analysis, laboratory work scheduling and study set-up.
  • Develops appropriate training plans and ensures staff are trained.
  • Identifies resource needs and coordinates installation and maintenance of laboratory equipment and space, as applicable.
  • Reviews cost estimates; compiles and provides revenue and forecast information to appropriate Covance staff, as applicable.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for the project work for internal and external customers.
  • Prepares and may lead client conference calls, project meetings, and visits.
  • Independently manages and coordinates schedules across the department, including lab scheduling and resource management.
  • Openly provides input in project meetings, informing Study Director, Principal Investigator and/or management of any problems and/or deviations that may affect the integrity of the data and recommends corrective action.
  • Reviews data, as applicable.
  • Assures staff compliance to SOPs.
  • Performs general human resources responsibilities, including recruitment activities, performance evaluations, and progressive discipline.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities, recommends solutions, and implements action plans.
  • Develops expertise in operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex equipment or software.
  • Maintains a clean and safe laboratory work environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


SPECIAL FACTORS:
  • Overtime and weekend work as required.
  • Mandatory immunizations and screening as required.
    • May work with potentially hazardous substances.


Education/Qualifications:

  • BS/BA degree in Science, or equivalent degree plus 3-4 years related experience. Experience may be substituted for education.


Experience:

  • Knowledge of appropriate regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of laboratory operations and an understanding of the technical aspects of the laboratory and/or computers and computer software systems.
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and communication skills.
