Newport News Shipbuilding has an opportunity for a Structural Engineer to join their Columbia ClassSubmarine team!CLB Submarine Engineering consists of three tiers of construction support. We are cognizant over 1) CLB fixture engineering where we engineer a multitude of fixtures to support the build process, 2) vendor support where we answer vendor questions (VIRs, VPARs, QNs, etc.) and review dimensional inspection on outsourced build assemblies, 3) construction support where we respond to waterfront questions in an effort to maintain schedule.

Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs. Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling. Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis. Tools utilized may include CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.

Basic Qualifications

5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience within submarine engineering as well as submarine construction processes. Liaison experience, working with 3-D product models and their associated databases, familiarity with welding, experience using SAP a plus.
