Department Overview

The Software Enterprise Deployment and Integration team is the team that delivers solutions to the public safety sector. We are committed to providing technology and tools which will allow customers to focus on their mission, and enable them to respond faster with smarter and safer decisions. We deploy and support products such as Computer Aided Dispatch, Records Management Systems, Jail Management Systems and Mobile Data Computing, among other offerings.

Job Description

Scope of Responsibilities/Expectations:

The Software & Service Implementation team comprises Project Management, System Engineering, Field Engineers and Operational Support personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission critical communication systems.

This Principal Staff System Engineer position will take responsibility for and oversee technical aspects of assigned project from award until system acceptance.

This involves:

● Acts as the overall technical lead in gathering and validating requirements for all assigned projects/products.

● Lead technical requirements tracking through the use of RTVMs.

● Generates system-level specifications and designs.

● Provides technical expertise for the resolution of complex problems. This could involve in depth analysis including the use of sophisticated analysis tools.

● Solicits input from the Software Architects during the development of a system specification.

● Participates in software architecture design reviews and test plan reviews to ensure compliance to specified requirements.

● Periodically meets with customers and potential customers to discuss requirements.

● Develops integration and test processes and policies.

● Defines, specifies and/or recommends test tools and scripts necessary to accomplish integration and test activities.

● Provides Estimates of Effort for defined test activities including plan, forecast and actual test execution and defect identification rates.

● Assists in developing test plans and procedures.

● Ensures reviews and audits addressing quality aspects are conducted at various points in the testing cycle.

● Ensures verification tests including features, reliability and performance testing are conducted.

● Ensures test defects are documented and maintained in Action Request tracking database, serving as the owner of this process within the company.

● Conducts reviews of test plans and procedures to ensure conformance to department policies and processes.

● Integral part of customer issue escalation process.

● Establishes or helps establish documentation standards to be followed for documents and articles produced or edited by technical staff.

● Organizes material and completes writing assignments according to set standards regarding order, conciseness, style, and terminology.

● Prioritizes multiple tasks and projects and keeps team members and supervisor apprised of status.

● Ensures accuracy and completeness of technical documentation.

● Reviews documentation of other technical writers as requested and provides guidance and answers questions on their assignments, company products, and related technology.

Travel may be required for all project phases, from design through final acceptance.


Specific Knowledge/Skills:

● Bachelor's Degree (BSEE/BSCE) preferred

● 7+ years of Systems Engineering or Wireless Communications experience.

● Experience in Public Safety communication systems is a plus

● Familiaritywith Legacy and Next Generation 911 Call Handling systems a plus.

● Experience directly working with end-user customers.

● Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to nontechnical audiences.

● Self motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment.

Must be able to obtain background clearance as required by government customer

Basic Requirements

7+ years of Systems Engineering or Wireless Communications experience.
