Manager, US International Tax Research & Planning

Job Summary

The Research and Planning Manager - US International Tax is a key role for the WBA international tax footprint. Manages and implements international tax strategies in order to reduce the Company's overall tax burden and risk through researching complex tax issues that impact profitability, ensuring compliance with tax laws including the new rules introduced as part of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), analyzing tax legislation, and developing tax models. Helps to ensure that international tax planning initiatives are properly incorporated into the international tax compliance process. Assists in adaptable process improvement opportunities for international tax function. Supports acquisition team focusing on due diligence and integration. Serves on a cross-functional team, providing technical knowledge and advice to team members. Addresses technical issues through utilizing specialized tax and accounting skills and recommends solutions.

Job Responsibilities

• Support Treasury on management of cash in overseas locations.
• Monitors legislative developments related to international operations.
• Assists with the review of the annual and quarterly tax provision related to foreign operations including global intangible low-taxed income (GILTI), foreign-derived intangible income (FDII), base erosion and anti-abuse abuse tax (BEAT), Section 163(j), and foreign tax credit (FTC) calculations.
• Develops and updates tax models to quantify the impact of the tax reform issued as part of the TCJA.
• Assists with the review of international transactions, such as acquisitions, dispositions, and reorganizations.
• Assists with drafting internal tax memorandum on various topics and transactions for documentation purposes.
• Works with the International Compliance team to ensure international tax planning initiatives, such as international acquisitions, restructuring, and check-the-box elections, are properly documented and reflected on the US international tax returns and disclosure statements.
• Assists with preparation of transfer pricing documentation.
• Develops, mentors, guides and manages staff, ensuring the development of employees through orientation, technical trainings, establishing goals, communication of rules, and constructive discipline.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of tax experience with an accounting firm, law firm or company with sales in excess of $5 billion OR High School/GED and at least 5 years of tax experience with an accounting firm, law firm or company with sales in excess of $5 billion.
  • Experience with global business(es) in US tax context.
  • Experience International mergers and acquisitions.
  • Technical knowledge of U.S. international income taxes. Experience with Subpart F, transfer pricing, foreign tax credits, GILTI, FDII and BEAT.
  • Experience with reviewing Forms 5471, 8858, 8865 and 1118
  • At least 1 year of experience in direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 15% of the time for business purposes (within states and overseas as necessary).


Preferred Qualifications
  • CPA certification or J.D degree
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and at least 5 years of tax experience with an accounting firm, law firm or company with sales in excess of $5 billion.
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Excel (for example: using SUMIF function, setting borders, setting column width, inserting charts, using text wrap, sorting, setting headers and footers and/or print scaling).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft PowerPoint (for example: applying a theme, formatting character spacing, inserting a picture, changing slide layout and theme colors, adding transitions, customizing slide numbers, changing chart style and/or formatting font).
  • Intermediate level skill in Microsoft Word (for example: inserting headers, page breaks, page numbers and tables and/or adjusting table columns).
  • Experience with software programs such as Sharepoint.
