Head of Healthcare Product Strategy (H3)

Job Summary:

Healthcare costs continue to rise at an unsustainable rate. Care is fragmented and the consumer is forgotten, leading to poor access, variable quality, greater disease burden, and high costs. To address these needs, Walgreens Boots Alliance, under the Healthcare Technology Venture Unity (H3), is developing new healthcare products and services aimed to put the user at the center and dramatically improve outcomes while lowering costs.

As the Senior Director Healthcare Product Strategy, you will shape the future of our product and product strategy. You will lead a team of exceptional product managers and work closely with engineering, UX, market and clinical operations, legal, finance, marketing, sales and other cross functional teams to develop strategies that directly impact the business.

As a senior leader within the H3 team, you will be a player-coach: building, managing, and motivating a diverse and best-in-class product team to execute against ambitious goals. You will be part of a groundbreaking new healthcare business that endeavors to transform the manner in which care is delivered to consumers.

This role reports directly to the Head of Product and Experience for Horizon 3 and will have direct contact with executive stakeholders (C-Suite), internal stakeholders, and external partners around new products and services being developed to drive down medical costs and improve patient outcomes through an improve patient experience. This role will have a high degree of independence to design, implement, and drive forward large-scale organizational-change programs and initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Develops an overarching short- and long-term product strategy, roadmap, and timeline for execution that is in line with the vision and growth aspiration of the company
  • Sets financial, operational and quality objectives for the Product Strategy team and develops master operational plans. Plans, develops and manages departmental expense and capital budgets.
  • Provides leadership for major strategic decisions in partnership with senior management. Works across appropriate businesses, support divisions, and internal/external partnerships to ensure that resources and objectives are aligned to deliver results.

  • Ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Defines, refines, represents, and communicates the product strategy and vision in line with the businesses long-term goals
  • Synthesizes ideas on strategy, planning, and execution of next generation of products and service, building consensus to support execution
  • Define features and capabilities based on this value proposition and setting prioritization for execution in collaboration with senior leadership, internal and external partners, etc.
  • Leads, develops and oversees the product management team
  • Ensures effective cross-functional collaboration across WBA
  • Guides and mentors a team of product managers and related team members
  • Performs ongoing assessment of product development processes and recommends enhancement opportunities
  • Establishes metrics to measure effectiveness and drive improvements
  • Defines sustainable processes to intelligently assess, collate and communicate customer needs
  • Communicates highly complex information with ease to internal and external partners
  • Develops and mentors new team members through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years' experience of product management in technology, retail and/or healthcare industry, directly or through consulting engagements OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 11 years' experience of product management in technology, retail and/or healthcare industry, directly or through consulting engagements
  • Experience working closely with the entire engineering and research teams, UX, program management, marketing, business development and strategy teams.
  • Experience thinking out of the box and developing new Omni channel (physical and digital) experiences
  • Experience in a consumer technology or healthcare industry with strong focus in Omni-channel
  • Experience using analytical skills to build competitive analysis, product strategy, business models
  • Experience delivering digital and / or physical (clinical service based) healthcare products at scale
  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial business decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership, and/or cross functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 25% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or higher degree in advanced mathematic / computational degree
  • Experience building rapid prototypes for experimentation and validation
  • Knowledge of the multi-user journey in healthcare and how the various users interact based on different workflows
