Walgreens' H3 team is seeking a highly motivated Head of Behavioral Science and User Engagement, who enjoys working in a fast-paced and frequently changing environment. This role will be instrumental in driving how we increasingly leverage behavioral science to drive the vision and success of our company and products.

This role reports directly to the Chief Product and Experience Officer and will have direct contact with executive stakeholders (C-Suite). This role will focus on building a team across behavioral research, design, measurement, and psychometrics to deliver a world class Behavioral Science, Data Science, Insights, and Engagement enterprise capability leveraging digital and physical delivery channels, analytics, and agile development methodologies. Moreover, this role help bring the power of artificial intelligence and machine learning to support the development of an insights and engagement platform.

This role works cross-functionally and collaboratively with teams across the H3 team in the design, execution, and analysis of behavioral, clinical, and business experiments, including A/B testing and randomized controlled studies when appropriate. To enable H3's mission to provide a best-in-class consumer health experience, the behavioral science team will help establish processes and guide the H3 team and external partners and collaborators through the processes to make it easy to navigate the complexity of implementing and evaluating practical programs incorporating behavioral science.

Job Responsibilities
  • Develop an overarching research strategy, roadmap, and timeline for execution that is in line with the vision and growth aspiration of the company
  • Plan, execute, and oversee projects that test the impact of our care models and related technology. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Structuring the scope of primary and secondary research;
    • Leading internal staff through diagnosis and design
    • Ensuring the proper design and structure of experimental tests;
    • Leading internal and external staff through implementation and analysis, ensuring implementations align with H3's goals, etc.
  • Develop the behavioral science research team to drive insights and customer engagement
  • Develop and evaluate behavioral science models and algorithms that support and drive consumer engagement in health & wellness products and services
  • Review and adopt research literature findings and industry best practices to develop innovative new concepts for consumer engagement and personalized service
  • Develop data-driven, action-oriented plans in a high-ambiguity environment, making use of behavioral science, quantitative analysis, and business judgment
  • Be an in-house expert in the principles and mechanisms of behavior change
  • Design, implement, and analyze quantitative behavioral experiments (A/B tests, RCT, etc.) across H3H3 products
  • Elucidate data-driven insights for product and content development for H3 and quickly learn from experiments to put forward new hypotheses, including identifying opportunities to improve the behavior change potential of products across the platform
  • Lead the development of quantitative survey instruments and user discussion guides
  • Develop behavioral and health-related metrics and conduct appropriate statistical analysis of impact
  • Work closely with Product and User Experience teams to understand user needs, goals, and experiences to create product capabilities, features, and content
  • Work closely with Product, User Experience, and Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) teams to design and implement quantitative validation studies for new products and features
  • Work with Product and Engineering to retrieve key product data and refine data measurement processes and policies
  • Contribute to product positioning and messaging that differentiates our products, services, and solutions in the market
  • Work with product and other teams to identify key learnings from research studies that can be leveraged to further develop the product and identify new product opportunities

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in Economics, Behavioral Sciences, Psychology (preferably social, cognitive, or consumer), or a related field; or High School/GED + at least 11 years of experience in Economics, Behavioral Sciences, Psychology (preferably social, cognitive, or consumer).
  • Knowledge of and experience in leveraging behavioral science to improve outcomes
  • Industry experience applying behavioral science in the business world, ideally in healthcare or a health-related field
  • Fluent understanding of experimental best practices
  • Experience with creating and/or evaluating existing assessments in the market (behavioral, personality, etc) and leverage assessment outputs to personalize how we engage with individuals via our platform, with careful considerations to avoid assessment bias
  • Experience conducting lab or field studies
  • Experience working with and analyzing various types of data using SAS, R, Stata, MATLAB, Python, or similar software
  • Experience in strategic and analytical modeling
  • Strong project management skills to ensure planning and coordination across internal and external resources for timely completion of research initiatives
  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).


Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's or PhD in a quantitative, computational or technical discipline
  • At least 3 years of work experience in healthcare, health insurance, or related field
  • Extensive experience conducting economic or behavioral science research
  • Experience with statistical modeling to make predictions about future outcomes and in multiple scenarios. Evangelizes new ideas / technologies / solutions to gain acceptance from a wide range of audiences
  • Experience in data science, advanced analytics, or statistics; ability to interrogate data, perform analyses, interpret data, and present to business audiences
