Our location in Santa Clara, California currently has an opportunity for an Associate Systems Integration & Lab Services Engineer.


Supporting the Abbott Hematology organization in technical aspects of the organization's instrumentation platforms. The position comprises Service and System Integration responsibilities within an R&D team by supporting and developing Hematology testing platforms.

Service aspects of the role require direct and onsite technical support, service escalations and collaborating with cross functional teams in order to obtain successful resolutions. Maintaining the internal instrument base, installing new prototypes & external clinical systems is a primary responsibility.

System Integration aspects of the role include supporting the development of both new product designs and design improvements on instrumentation in the medical device field. Executing system integration test protocols and supporting the development of new instrument procedures. Periodic Travel to support Service-related projects may be required.
  • Perform installation, integration and performance monitoring of diagnostic laboratory equipment
  • Executing system integration test protocols & supporting the development of new product designs and design improvements
  • Respond to service tickets for break/fix, system upgrades and preventative maintenance
  • Record instrument anomalies and provide them as feedback to the appropriate software Research and Development (R&D) groups.
  • Identifies, confirms and interprets interacting causes & effects behind instrument issues, discrepancies, problems or complaints in accordance with governing procedures
  • Assist with internal investigations into technical complaints and lab instrument issues
  • Supports the creation of upkeep of technical documentation.
  • Assists with design for serviceability and supportability of engineering activities
  • Execute study protocols following good lab practices to align with Abbott Quality procedures to support on-market changes and product improvements
  • Perform all duties in compliance with appropriate regulations and company policies
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system.
  • Maintains effective communications within ADD Hematology organization & leadership
  • Periodic Travel to support Service-related projects may be required.


  • Bachelor's Degree In an engineering or closely related discipline preferred. Or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 0-2 related work experience
  • Applies engineering technical knowledge for specified engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and biologics is desired.

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Science or closely related discipline is desired; or relevant combination of education or experience.
  • 2 years work related experience.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards affecting IVDs and Biologics.
  • Good Lab Practice, PC Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Data representation.
  • Reviews, generates and documents Verification & Validation or characterization related inputs.
  • Demonstrates use of experimental and data Analysis techniques including statistics, DOE and Six Sigma training.
  • Presents, delivers and interprets information amongst product team members, scientists, engineers, and other systems development personnel.
  • Proficient in operation of instruments, and repair/replacement of parts/subassemblies.
