HJF is seeking a Research Assistant I (COVID-19) to support the Emerging Infectious Diseases Branch (EIDB) located at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to EIDB.

The Emerging Infectious Disease Branch is seeking a Research Assistant I to help conduct laboratory research towards the understanding of novel coronaviruses and other emerging disease pathogens. The incumbent will be responsible for research and/or project development in collaboration with senior technical staff. The primary role of this position will be purification and characterization of antibodies and recombinant proteins for use in the design and development of vaccines and therapeutics for use in Phase 1 clinical trials. Training can be provided but previous experience is an asset.

Responsibilities:
  1. Performs research projects, including the collection and organization of data. Follows instructions and standard operating procedures. (40%)
  2. Performs data entry in accurate, timely, and efficient manner. Maintains clear and accurate data collection records and inventories in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices. (20%)
  3. Maintains supplies in the laboratory and ensures proper cleanliness and sanitation in accordance with Good Clinical and/or Good Laboratory practices. (30%)
  4. Creates, collects, disseminates, and maintains appropriate study data. (5%)
  5. Assists in the preparation of technical reports, summaries, and protocols. Creates and communicates detailed observations on experiments. (5%)
  6. May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques; ability to follow detailed instructions; good communication and analytical skills.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree is required.

Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: Minimum of 0-2 years of relevant work experience required.

Work Environment: Set in a laboratory work environment. On rare occasions experiments may run into the weekend. Evening, holiday or weekend work is occasionally required.

Background/Security: Must have lived in the U.S. 3 out of the past 5 years; eligible to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/ Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
