Patient Care Technician-P7-Telemetry/Thoracic Surgery (evening/night)

The Patient Care Technician on the Telemetry / Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides patient care services as assigned by a registered nurse and directly impacts patient comfort and outcome of care.

The Telemetry/Thoracic/Cardiovascular Unit provides care to patients admitted to the unit with esophagectomies, pneumonectomies, pulmonary resections and various cardiovascular interventions, including carotid endarterectomies and vascular by-pass. Because the unit has 32 surgical telemetry beds, patients having surgical procedures who may have developed an arrhythmias will also be admitted to P7. Patients tend to be of high acuity demanding focused care.

Ideal candidate must have a high school diploma and either one year of recent experience in an acute care setting as a Nursing Assistant or a CNA certification.

This is an evening/night shift consisting of 7pm-7am, 3pm-11pm and/or 11pm-7a, with rotating holidays and weekends.

Responsibilities include completion of routine or advanced patient care assignments as assigned. Understands critical changes to patient status and reports concerns to appropriate nursing staff. Works with multidisciplinary team members to identify and address patient care needs. Effectively and professionally resolves conflict with team members, provides and receives timely feedback to ensure collaboration and positively impact patient care, and patient satisfaction scores. Demonstrates superior customer service in all interactions with patients, families, visitors, and colleagues.

Aids in completion of activities of daily living, mobilization, admit/discharge, and vital signs in a diverse patient setting. Supports unit goals aimed at assisting patients in reaching maximum functionality. Encourages patients in progression of wellness and promotes independence.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
