The Biology for Drug Discovery group in the Department of Chemical Biology and Therapeutics (CBT) in NIBR translates outstanding science into medical innovation through a variety of technologies and talents. The Stem Cell and Complex Cell Models group in Cambridge is looking for an energetic scientist with experience in Stem Cell Biology and directed differentiation techniques to join our team. The new team member will contribute to diverse projects spanning disease biology and therapeutic discovery by building iPSC-derived and complex cell models.

Your Responsibilities Include, but are not Limited to:

- Being a highly motivated scientist who will support our therapeutic discovery pipeline by developing novel or following existing differentiation protocols to drive human pluripotent stem cells into diverse cell types and complex physiologically-relevant cellular models.

- Leading projects from the bench by experimentally and intellectually contributing to the activities of the hiPSC group, including cell production, protocol optimization, and CRISPR-mediated genome engineering among others.

- Being a great teammate and collaborating with experienced and committed scientists passionate about innovating groundbreaking paradigms to advance drug discovery.

- Developing and nurturing positive relationships with collaborators while representing Novartis values of transparency, integrity, courage, innovation, quality and collaboration.

Minimum requirements

What You'll Bring to the Role:

- B.S. degree in Developmental or Cell biology, Molecular Biology or related field with 2+ years of experience in Stem Cell research in industry or academia, or M.S. degree in a Stem cell-related field with 1+ year of additional proven experience.

- Extensive knowledge, training, and hands-on experience in human ES/iPS cell culture/maintenance, directed differentiation techniques, and characterization of specialized cell types.

- Cell and molecular biology assay experience in areas such as flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, imaging, RT-qPCR, Western Blot, ELISA, genome engineering, and viral mediated gene manipulation.

- A record of accomplishments that demonstrate innovation, productivity, and capability to work in a collaborative and interdisciplinary research structure.

- Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills to enable successful engagement across functions and disciplines.

- Proficiency in experimental design, troubleshooting, electronic record-keeping and organizational ability to plan and prioritize work.

Desirable Skills:

- Working knowledge of 3D cellular models such as organoids and co-cultures

- Experience in cell-based assay development, screening, and automation
