Supplier Quality Engineer

Job Description Summary

The Lead Supplier Quality Engineer will drive quality for assigned suppliers, including quality plan implementation. Develop requirements and plans for supplier qualifications. Own supplier results, drive improvements utilizing supplier scorecards. Own supplier audits, ensuring compliance, and driving improvement plans where needed. Investigate and analyze nonconforming products to determine root cause and execute corrective actions within the supply base.

  • Roles and Responsibilities:

    Duties include, but are not limited to:
    • Perform Supplier Quality Engineer activities focusing on supplier approval, supplier qualification and quality control of the procurement activities
    • Work proactively with suppliers to define specific quality requirements
    • De velopment of inspection, verification, qualification plans, in addition to tests and processes to assure products and services meet the quality requirements
    • Provide technical guidance to suppliers toward assuring product/process compliance with engineering drawings and specification
    • Work closely with Sourcing, Business teams, Manufacturing, and engineering to eliminate roadblocks and communication barriers that may affect quality requirements
    • Work proactively with suppliers to resolve quality concerns applying technical and quality expertise to avoid reoccurrences of quality issues
    • Implement changes to improve processes and product quality, optimize production of quality at the source, and eliminate failures/losses
    • Write and review technical quality documents, plans and procedures
    • Maintain Quality Assurance Programs and procedures, assure compliance with regulatory requirements
    • Perform other relevant duties as assigned


    Required Qualifications:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a regionally accredited college, university, or equivalent
    • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, or quality functions with demonstrated technical aptitude


    Eligibility Requirements:
    • Must have the ability and willingness to travel (up to 20%) to supplier and customer sites as needed


    Desired Characteristics:
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface effectively at all levels of the organization
    • Four (4) or more years of experience in engineering, manufacturing or quality functions with demonstrated technical aptitude
    • Demonstrated familiarity with, 10CFR50 Appendix B or ISO-9000 requirements
    • Previous or Current Lead Auditor certification
    • Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt certification or equivalent quality certification
    • Analytical and problem solving skills
    • Ability to work in cross-functional team environment.
    • Ability to manage multiple projects at once
    • Passionate, energizing: able to excite others to take actions in implementing supplier quality initiatives
    • Experience working in or with a large organization (>1,000 employees)
    • Self-starter possessing strong initiative and teamwork
